Electrical Compliance Services
Making sure you are operating in a safe environment and maintaining electrical compliance with safety legislation is vital. Calbarrie Compliance Services are experts in providing clients with all the information and required services they need to maintain total compliance.
PAT Testing
PAT testing doesn’t just include truly portable equipment; the scope is wider. It includes everything that is attached to the electrical wiring system. A drinks machine, for example, is classed as a ‘portable appliance’ as is a freezer cabinet or photocopier. The groupings used by the IET (the Institute of Engineering & Technology) include ‘stationary’, ‘IT’, ‘moveable’, ‘portable’ and ‘handheld’ − all are dealt with by PAT.
This broad bracket of included equipment means that PAT testing usually concerns large numbers of individual tests − often thousands. In an office, for example, it’s typical for each and every worker to have approximately seven portable appliances around them; from computers, to printers, faxes and fans. A computer, for example, can mean three or four tests and many people mistakenly count this as just one. Plus the workers themselves can have an impact on the electrical safety around them − which we’ll discuss later.
Fixed Installation Testing
Electrical Remedial Works
Regularly there are lethal situations where sites have been tested but faults not corrected. It’s vital to understand that fixed installation testing is only part of the electrical safety compliance requirement. If the essential remedial work is not complete following testing then the organisation could be culpable of fault and negligence. It’s likely that insurance for the site would be compromised and if the worst should happen then it could be proven that the Duty Holder was liable.
Testing must surely be done − ignorance is no defence − but acting on the results is essential.
In a recent survey of 400 organisations that have had testing done, shockingly, over half admit that no electrical remedial work has been done subsequent to that testing.
Thermal Imaging
All electrical equipment and components are subject to deterioration, loose connections and load imbalances that are not always apparent or detected by conventional checks such as routine maintenance or periodic test and inspection. Deterioration may be in many forms, for example, loose or corroded connections and joints, insulation resistance breakdown or worn parts.
When energised and under load, these faults can become clearly visible with the aid of thermal imaging. Identified as ‘hot spots’, the severity of the problem can be identified and resolved. In many cases this allows for instant fault diagnosis which can be brought to our client’s attention immediately. Calbarrie can identify the problem areas and provide the necessary solutions and remedial action.
Emergency Light Testing
About us
Currently, Calbarrie's management team brings over 100 years of combined experience in safety and compliance, supported by more than 100 qualified engineers located across the UK. Calbarrie exclusively employs its own staff and does not rely on sub-contractors or service delivery partners.
Our Services Include:
PAT Testing
PAT involves the thorough inspection of any equipment with a plug. Our certified engineers carefully test the portable appliances in your workplace and provide a comprehensive report within hours of completing the tests.
Fixed Installation Testing
Periodic Fixed Installation Testing involves inspecting the electrical circuits and systems that distribute power throughout a building. This includes all the permanent wiring, whether the building is commercial, industrial, or residential.
Electrical Remedial Works
After electrical safety testing is completed, any necessary remedial repairs must be carried out. The risk arises when a fault is identified during testing, but the issue remains unresolved, potentially leading to an accident. Calbarrie stands out by not only identifying faults but also providing an Electrical Remedial Repairs service to address them promptly.
Thermal Imaging
Thermal imaging is an efficient method for detecting electrical faults and failures. Loose connections, which can cause heat buildup and potentially lead to fires, are easily identified using thermal imaging cameras operated by our skilled engineers.
Emergency Light Testing
Calbarrie Compliance Services provides a range of tests and assessments to ensure our clients meet the legislative requirements and standards for emergency lighting testing.
Fire Alarm Testing
Neglecting to properly maintain your alarm system can lead to non-compliance with Health and Safety regulations, Local Authority guidelines, and National and European laws, while also potentially voiding your insurance coverage.
Our testing adheres to BS 7671:2018 18th Edition and Guidance Note 3 of the IET Wiring Regulations. We are accredited by NICEIC, CHAS, and Safe Contractor, and are also members of Constructionline and RoSPA.
Calbarrie is renowned for its commitment to best practices and innovation within the industry. Striving for the highest standards in compliance and safety, we have earned accreditations in ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001. Calbarrie is a leader in health and safety, quality, and environmental standards.
We operate regionally across the UK − please get in touch for information about our other locations.
