Diamond Core Drilling

Diamond Core Drilling

This is a precise versatile and dust free method of creating holes and forming openings. Diamond core drilling sizes range from 8mm to 1M in diameter to almost unlimited depths and profiles. These holes can be formed in hard materials and reinforced concrete.
Diamond core drilling is the use of a rotary drill motor mounted on a drill column. This is achieved with a diamond tipped core to cut through steel reinforced concrete.
All our equipment has a water feed ensuring a dust free environment, diamond drilling is a low vibration operation and can be done vertically, horizontally, inverted and angled. By diamond drilling holes which slightly overlay, stitch drilling, different profiles can be achieved for such things as ducting trays and ventilation ducts. Drill Masters uses a variety of drill motors to undertake the diamond drilling but have recently preferred the Weka from JKS
We are specialists Diamond Core Drillers who cover the East Anglia region and we have been servicing the diamond core drilling and cutting industry for over 20 years.
Floor Sawing

Floor Sawing

Floor Sawing − Is the method of creating clean straight cuts in reinforced concrete slabs, asphalt, roads or airport runways to a depth of 700mm. This technique is also ideal for creating drainage channels, removing concrete slabs, expansion joints and floor sawing also enable the cutting of expansion joints to a width of 50mm.
Drill Masters operate a range of floor saws including Cedima CF22 Electric Floor saw, which is powered by a three phase supply. This makes it perfect for floor sawing inside a building. This gives it an advantage as in confined spaces petrol fumes could cause a problem.
This lightweight electric floor saw has an impressive cutting depth of 700mm and its compact size ensures it functions in well in small rooms and tight locations.
Drill Masters floor saws are either self propelled or push along and can be supplied in diesel, electric or petrol.
Many have interchangeable blades which can be used to cut in difficult locations.
Track Sawing

Track Sawing

Track Sawing is a track mounted sawing machine which uses a remote control and diamond blade to cut both vertically and horizontally to depths of 730mm. Track sawing is used primarily for cutting wall openings, door openings, stairwell, lift shaft and ventilation ducts. Compact size and weight makes them versatile for moving between floor levels.
As diamond track sawing is remote controlled we can create accurate openings with high levels of precision. Another advantage of being remote controlled is that it removes the occurrence of vibration and noise levels as the operator can be positioned further away from the cutting location. Track saws can be used for angle, inverted or flush cutting and the specific cutting of stairs.
Drill Masters operate a number of track saw cutting machines including a Hilti DS TS 20-E, electric wall saw. This is a compact wall saw operating a three phase power supply and it boasts a cutting depth of 530mm. The largest track saw we operate is a 1600mm hydraulic unit which cuts to depths of 730mm and can deliver a flush cut.
Ring Sawing

Ring Sawing

Ring sawing − Is a handheld hydraulic circular saw fitted but with a blade that can cut reinforced concrete and brick to depths of 270mm. This is achievable by having the drive for the fitted close to the handle rather than in the centre like many traditional centre-driven cutters. The extra cutting depth makes ring saws ideal for cutting through double skin brick walls and reinforced concrete walls.
As ring saws are hydraulic powered they do not produce fumes in the cutting area making them suitable to use inside buildings as well as for outdoor jobs. Hydraulics are also an excellent way to transfer high power without the cutter becoming too heavy due to a large motor being built in. Drill Masters prominently use the Husqvarna K3600 Mk II ring saw. Its unique power / weight ration and hydraulic drive make for a highly efficient and maneuverable handheld cutter.
Ring saws are excellent for cutting or enlarging doorways, windows, lift shafts, service risers, cutting ring beams or altering manhole rings. For more examples of where Drill Masters have used ring saws see our projects page.
Chain Sawing

Chain Sawing

Chain Sawing − Is a handheld hydraulic chainsaw fitted with diamond teeth on the chain. These chain saws can cut reinforced concrete and brick to depths of 480mm. As they operate on a chain method rather than a circular blade they can be plunged through a wall ensuring that over cutting is kept to a absolute minimum. As they operate from a hydraulic power pack such as the Hycon HPP13 FLEX they are ideally suited to be operated inside a building as well as for outside jobs. Drill Masters uses the ICS 880F hydraulic concrete chainsaw which has a cutting depth of 480mm and a torque rating of 122 in-lbs.
Hydraulic chain saws are ideal for cutting doorways and windows where no overcutting is required or where deep cutting is required but limited access room is available. Drill Masters have used chain sawing on many projects as per the video below.
We are experts in this field and capable of providing a rapid response across East Anglia.
Wall Chasing

Wall Chasing

Chasing − Is the method of diamond cutting a small channel in brick or block walls for electrical cables or pipes to be embedded into the wall and hidden from view. This is achieved by using a specialist chasing machine which has a large spindle that two 125mm diamond cutting blades can be fitted to cut the desired channel. The diamond blades have spaces between then to give the correct width of cut and a depth gauge to ensure the exact required depth is achieved. Once the cuts have been completed the channel can be broken out with a handheld breaker leaving a channel in the wall for cables or pipes to be secured in.
Drill Masters use the 110 volt Hilti DC-SE20 machine which is capable of producing a 46mm wide chase to a depth of 40mm. The fast rotary speed of the motor ensure a fast accurate cut and they are virtually dust free with a industrial vacuum attached. With the high speed cutting function they are capable of cutting all types of brick and blocks as well as concrete and flint and hard stones. The lightweight design and low vibration levels associated with the Hilti DC-SE20 ensure they can comfortably be used for long periods of time resulting in a very productive time on site.
Concrete Repairs

Concrete Repairs

Concrete repairs − Is the repairing of cracks in concrete. All concrete, once placed will contract during the curing process. Initially this causes small surface cracks but when set the concrete will expand or contract slightly with ambient temperature. Concrete repairs are utilised to repair these cracks before the weather can penetrate them and cause significantly larger cracks.
The cracks are cleaned and all loose debris is removed to provide a clean dust free surface. Specialist repair mortars are used to infill the cracks. These mortars are a stronger version of concrete to provide an impregnable layer where the cracks was.
Drill Masters use a range of manufacters products to undertake the repairs including Sika and Weber
Joint Sealing

Joint Sealing

Joint Sealing − Is where silicone or polyurethane sealants are used on expansion joints or where two different properties meet to provide a flexible joint to allow the two surfaces to move. Joint sealing compounds are used to seal joints and opening between two or more materials. Their main purpose is to prevent water, air or liquids from entering a structure while permitting movement of the materials.
The two main types of joints Drill Masters specialise in, movement and concrete floor joints. Movement joints are used to reduce and control cracking in walls and are located in strategic positions to allow low levels of movement without cracking to the masonry. Concrete floor joints include isolation joints and contraction joints. Isolation joints are used to completely isolate the concrete floor slab from either a wall or column. These items usually have deeper footings so do not move the same way as the slab does. Contraction joints are formed in the fresh concrete before it has a chance to create its own joints also known as cracks. Contraction joints are really just a crack in the slab that is forced to follow the line of our own choosing.
Drill Masters use many different suppliers of joint sealing products depending on the application. The most well known being Fosroc who are global leaders in the field.
Concrete Bursting

Concrete Bursting

Is a safe, efficient method of removing reinforced or mass concrete. Ideally used in office blocks, residential buildings or hospitals where large chunks of material need to be removed quietly and free of vibration. Hydraulic Bursters are inserted in pre-drilled holes and expanded until the material is forced apart. This reduces the concrete to manageable sections for removal.
This method is ideal for use in confined spaces as it can be easily maneuvered into position.
One of the leading manufacturers of concrete bursting systems is Darda. Their bursters are operated via the Hydraulic power pack. Firstly 78 diameter holes are diamond cored in the slab at approx 1m intervals. A burster is secured in the hole with spaces to hold it secure. The hydraulic power pack is engaged and the burster expands causing the concrete to crack.
The reinforcement then needs detaching with a small angle grinder and the manageable sections can be removed. This technique is fast and practical for removing concrete slabs where noise and water would present an issue.
Concrete Crunching

Concrete Crunching

Concrete Crunching is where powerful breaker jaws are applied to the open edge of concrete and squeezed together to crush it. The crunching jaws are powered by a hydraulic power pack and positioned by the operatives before switching the lever to apply the pressure. The jaws exert a force in excess of 30 tons and they can clamp a structure 300mm wide. Being silent in operation and virtually zero vibration means this machine is ideal for working in populated work areas where noise cannot be tolerated. The power pack and jaws being relatively small can be used in area’s that the robotic demolition machines struggle to access.
Specialist Gnat Brokk and Husqvarna demolition robots fitted with concrete crushing jaws ensure virtually emission-free and produces low levels of noise, dust and vibration. Unlike the service of Concrete Bursting there is no need to pre-drill holes with a diamond core drill. Concrete Crunching does not produce any percussion effect so structural integrity of the surrounding buildings are not effected.
