All Environtec surveying services are UKAS accredited, which ensures conformity to ISO/IEC17020:2012. UKAS Accredited Asbestos Air Monitoring

UKAS Accredited Asbestos Air Monitoring

With a mobile fleet of laboratories, we bring our air monitoring service to you − anywhere in the UK.

Airborne asbestos fibres are a serious risk in many situations. If asbestos is disturbed intentionally or by accident, it poses a serious health hazard.

It’s critical to keep your environments safe from asbestos. We make this easier for you via our asbestos air monitoring service. Our mobile service is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and can be offered on an emergency basis.

You can choose from the following tests, depending on your needs:

Reassurance air tests
Leak air tests
Background air tests
Personal air monitoring
Four stage clearance tests (certificate of re-occupation)

Accredited, assured air monitoring

All of our asbestos air monitoring services are UKAS accredited and are undertaken by our fully qualified staff. This gives you peace of mind that your testing conforms with ISO/IEC17025:2005 and complies with HSE guidance, including HSG248 Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.

For convenience, all of your paperwork and certification is completed electronically, using hand-held tablets. We can print copies for your building manager and contractor in our mobile laboratory, and you can access them online via our Asbestos Management Portal. To learn more about our air monitoring services, get in touch today.
Asbestos in Soils Testing

Asbestos in Soils Testing

After we have collected soil samples from your site, they are sent to our UKAS accredited laboratory and analysed for the presence of asbestos.

Initial screening is conducted initially by eye and then by binocular microscopy. Identification of asbestos types is then conducted using polarised light microscopes.

If asbestos is found in a sample, then we quantify it. First, we weigh asbestos-containing materials and measure contamination as a percentage of the sample weight. Then we subject the sample to sedimentation, which is analysed by phase contrast microscopy.

This extremely thorough process gives you the data you need to understand contamination levels at your site. Samples normally take 10 working days to complete, but if you need results in a hurry we can undertake full testing within 3 days.

Get in touch today to arrange asbestos soil testing.
Asbestos Contaminated Land Remediation

Asbestos Contaminated Land Remediation

If an investigation reveals that your site is not safe or poses a risk to health from asbestos, you may be wondering what to do next.

When this happens, your next step is to take remedial action. The type of action will vary depending on your particular site − and whether your aim is development or otherwise − but we will help you choose the most appropriate next steps.

We work with land remediation partners to design, deliver and monitor a wide range of remedial options, including:

On-site
Reuse
Treatment
Hand picking
Screening/processing
Solidification
Cover systems/capping
Off-site
Treatment
Disposal (including WAC test)
Leave in-situ

We always act as the project manager for remediation projects, giving you the benefit of a fully approved supply chain to facilitate these works.
Asbestos Contaminated Land Surveys

Asbestos Contaminated Land Surveys

Asbestos contaminated land is becoming an increasingly common problem. With more and more houses being built on brownfield sites, you may need asbestos contaminated land to be remediated before development can proceed. We’re here to help you keep delays to a minimum.

If you have a site that is known or suspected as potentially contaminated with asbestos, we can work with you and your advisers to devise an effective and practical strategy for remediation to replace the decontamination.

The first phase of investigation is a Preliminary Risk Assessment (PRA). At this stage we’ll collect and review documentary evidence using a Desk Study and Site Reconnaissance Survey (SRS).

When these are complete, we develop a Conceptual Site Model (CSM) that shapes our strategy for a field investigation. This is designed to:

confirm whether asbestos is present
quantify the amount of asbestos and ACMs present
classify soil waste
establish the distribution of asbestos (including locating any cashes)

We then design appropriate site-specific sampling and analytical strategies that ensure we adopt appropriate sampling and analytical methods for your site. Our key concern is to yield information that is fit for purpose and of a suitable quantity and quality.

Techniques for identifying asbestos at your site include grid-based inspections of individual zones, allowing us to identify areas where visible asbestos is present in surface soil. We can also create boreholes, trial pits and trenches to determine the location and extent of asbestos contamination in the ground.

If you believe your site may be contaminated, don’t wait − get in touch to find out how we can help you.

Asbestos Air Testing

Asbestos Air Testing

Asbestos can be found in a huge variety of materials. The only way to know for sure whether a material contains asbestos is to test it. That’s where our bulk testing and analysis can help you.

Our UKAS accredited laboratories can analyse and report on materials quickly. It’s something we’ve specialised in since 1999.

Our range of laboratory analysis services include:

Asbestos Bulk Sample Analysis − to test a range of materials for asbestos
Water Absorption Testing − a cost-effective method of detecting asbestos in insulating type boards
Asbestos in Soil Testing − for checking the safety of on-site soil

Fast, UKAS compliant testing

Environtec’s bulk analysis services are UKAS accredited and conform to ISO17025, meaning you can rely on our results. All test are carried out by fully qualified staff and comply with HSE guidance, including HSG248 The Analysts’ Guide.

Lead Paint Surveys & Lead Services

Lead Paint Surveys & Lead Services

Lead paint may not be used any more, but it can still be found in thousands of places. Homes, schools, public and commercial buildings − not to mentions furniture and playgrounds − are all environments in which dangerous lead paint may have been used in the past.

If there is a risk that lead paint is present in your properties, it’s vital to take steps to address it. The Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 (CLAW) specifically require employers to:

make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health of employees, to include whether the exposure of any employees to lead is liable to be significant
identify and implement the measures to prevent or adequately control that exposure
record the significant findings of the assessment as soon as is practicable after the assessment is made

To identify any lead-based paint hazards and implement remedial measures, it’s essential to commission a lead survey as soon as possible.
