GRP Rooflights & Sheets
Applications
FILON GRP rooflights may be used in single skin and double skin site assembled applications and where necessary, including insulating intermediate layers to provide improved insulation levels for compliance with current legislation. FILON GRP rooflights are available in various weights including 1.83kg/m², 2.44kg/m², 3.06kg/m² and 3.66kg.m².
Durability
FILON rooflights have excellent impact resistance and are supplied with a highly durable UV resistant polyester film to the weather face. This extends the durable working life of the sheet and the UV resistance limits sheet yellowing. Under normal conditions, sheet life should be in excess of 30 years.
Non-fragility
FILON standard range of profiled rooflights and sheets are available at weights required to provide Class C and Class B non-fragile ratings in accordance with ACR(M)001:2011.
Dimensions
FILON sheets are supplied to length to suit customer requirements. Sheet width will be determined by the profile matched.
Fire resistance
FILON rooflights have been subjected to tests in accordance with BS 476 and are offered in three fire retardant grades, up to Class 0. For technical advice on which fire grade should be used in specific applications please refer to FILON Technical Services Department.
Supasafe & DR Reinforced Profiled GRP Rooflights
FILON DR rooflights are manufactured from polyester resins and glassfibre, with an additional reinforced woven glass layer compared with conventional GRP rooflights. They have been assessed in accordance with ACR(M)001-2011 ‘Test for Fragility of roofing assemblies. Under this classification, they are rated Class B when used in a single skin application or forming part of a multi-layer assembly such as FAIRs and site assembled insulating rooflights.
FILON Supasafe (triple reinforced) rooflights
FILON Supasafe rooflights are manufactured from polyester resins and glassfibre, with two additional reinforcement layers compared with conventional GRP rooflights. They have been assessed in accordance with ACR(M)001-2005 ‘Test for Fragility of Roofing Assemblies. Under this classification, they achieve a Class B Non-Fragility rating providing comparable impact resistance and load bearing capabilities to 0.7mm steel sheet.
Excellent resistance to weathering
FILON reinforced GRP rooflights are supplied with a highly durable protective film to the weather surface. This extends sheet life and reduces yellowing. Under normal atmospheric conditions, life expectancy should be in excess of 30 years.
Accurate profile matching to steel sheet
As FILON Supasafe and DR rooflights are manufactured using a highly sophisticated and carefully developed process, the end result is a much thinner sheet compared with alternative manufacturers’ which provide similar levels of impact resistance and load bearing capabilities. This much thinner sheet enables us to manufacture rooflights and roof sheets with a very accurate profile definition enabling much more successful sealing between side and end laps.
FAIRs Factory Assembled Insulating GRP Rooflights

DR Refurb GRP Sheets for Repairs to Profiled Roofs & Walls
Effective and easy roof repairs
To enhance strength and impact resistance, these sheets incorporate an extra woven reinforcement. This provides a strong composite with sufficient flexibility to enable the sheets to be easily fixed into existing roofs. Filon DR-Refurb sheets were originally designed for replacement of old asbestos cement sheets. However, they are equally suitable for replacement of metal sheets. They can be used as a direct replacement, or laid over existing damaged sheets. In either case, this involves removing the fixings and fitting the DR sheet below the roof sheet at the head lap and at the underlapping side lap.
Strong, durable, lightweight roofing
The light weight of Filon DR sheets allow them to be laid over existing damaged sheets without the need for additional structural reinforcement. The additional strength of the sheets reduces the possibility of falling through damaged or broken roof sheets whilst remedial work is being carried out or if anyone accidentally steps on the sheets after the work has been completed.
Fire rated grades available
Filon DR-Refurb sheets are offered in three fire resistant grades, to meet current Building Regulations for Fire Safety.
Fixsafe - The Safe Replacement System for Damaged Roof Sheets & Rooflights
Figures published by the Health & Safety Executive show that falls through fragile roof materials could equate to nearly a quarter of fatal accidents in the construction industry. The Filon Fixsafe system has been developed to address this problem and play a major part in reducing this statistic.
Safety first - no need to access fragile roofs
The Fixsafe system has been designed to allow profiled roofsheets or rooflights to be replaced from below, eliminating the need to access dangerous fragile roofs, thereby increasing safety for maintenance operatives and equipment erectors.
Save lives and save money, too
By removing the requirement for costly safety netting, roof staging, fall protection or external scaffolding, access equipment costs are minimised, on-site time is reduced and lives are not put at risk.
Disruption minimised
The speed and ease with which roof repairs can be carried out using the Fixsafe system brings important advantages to building owners, with reduced disruption and safer working procedures.
HSE compliant
The Health & Safety Executive has responded positively to the introduction of the Fixsafe system as a means of allowing those involved in repairing fragile roofs to work fully in compliance with Regulation 9 of the Working at Height Regulations, 2005.
A complete system
The Fixsafe system comprises specific GRP replacement sheets to match all popular asbestos and fibre cement profiles, together with patented Fixsafe fixings to allow installation to be carried out from below.
Peace of mind
By greatly reducing the risk of serious injury or death, the Fixsafe system brings peace of mind to employers and building owners when repair work is required.
