Passive Fire Protection Services

Passive Fire Protection Services

At Fire immunity we offer a wide range of different passive fire protection services to meet any needs or requirements you might have for protecting your home or business. So what is passive fire protection? For any fire protection strategy to be successful passive fire protection must be prioritised. Passive fire protection’s goal is to reduce the financial damage a fire might cause but most importantly safeguard human lives. So how does PFP do this?

PFP will contain a fire within individual compartments to reduce the risk of spreading faster through the building.
Allows Individuals within the building to use escape routes by directing fire away from them.
Minimizing the amount of damage the fire causes to the building, ultimately protecting the structure of the building.
Compartmentation Surveys

Compartmentation Surveys

Fire Immunity provides custom surveys and reports tailored to suit each client’s unique situation and priority.

In addition to our extensive experience across various industries, we specialize in providing occupied building inspections to provide our clients with all the information required to make informed decisions regarding passive fire safety. Under Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a regular planned preventative maintenance programme for completed work is recommended as part of the requirement to maintain fire safety provisions.

Fire Immunity provides custom surveys and reports tailored to suit each client’s unique situation and priority.
Structural Steel Protection

Structural Steel Protection

A fire in a steel-framed building could be catastrophic for those inside. The premature collapse of the building is a real possibility, which is why structural steel protection is essential to ensure the safety of your building and the occupants inside. At Fire Immunity, we have worked on multiple steel-structured buildings in Bristol & South West Area over the last 4 years, installing solutions to make them meet fire regulations and be as safe as can be.
Fire Protective Sprays

Fire Protective Sprays

Typically consist of strong fibres, filling agents & and a binder (usually cement or plaster), fire protective sprays are a great way to protect steel-structured buildings where having an aesthetically pleasing workplace isn’t a priority. Essentially this service is best suited to warehouses and some office environments however, at Fire Immunity our expert team have perfected their finishings with some architects now vouching for the look suggesting that they might come into fashion over time.

Once we have assessed your steel structure we will begin the fire protection of your steel beams. We will begin by delivering the fire protective spray which is in powder form to the building site. To create a sprayable material we will then add the correct amount of water advised by the manufacturing company and then use specialised spraying equipment to spray the steelwork. Combining an experienced team and the very best equipment we can ensure that we are meeting the required thickness as per regulations.
Intumescent Paints

Intumescent Paints

High temperatures react with water & solvent-based intumescent paints. In its usual form, an intumescent paint is a simple paint coating, however, when exposed to extreme heat/fire it will begin to transform into a fire protective, carbon foam (can grow up to 50x), which provides insulation to the load-bearing structure.

Unlike a fire protective spray, this paint is a great way to fire protect steelwork while keeping an aesthetically pleasing finish. This service could benefit a warehouse store that has steel beam exposure.
 Steel Protective Boards

Steel Protective Boards

It’s important to understand that any fire protection service has to be regularly scrutinised and inspected so therefore the simpler the service the better quality of fire protection you might have. Steel protective boards consists of many different steps consisting of metal rails, various compounds and fixings such as screws, glue & fillers. For this service, we usually find that is better suited to a building project that has a higher budget and can afford to have extra personnel to check each application as not one person can check every part. However, the actual part of applying this service is, in fact, quick and doesn’t disrupt other Jobsite activities.

Saying that we cannot stress how effective this passive protection service can be in protecting steel beams and other steel structures. A typical fire protection board is usually made of a mineral (calcium silicate or calcium sulfate) reinforced with fibers and fillers. Some boards, in addition to providing fire protection, were also further reinforced for durability, specifically for resistance to humidity and freeze-thaw.

As a result, boards have a strong advantage of being produced in a controlled environment, with strict tolerances for relevant properties, including thickness.
Penetration Sealing

Penetration Sealing

Penetration sealing systems are one of the main components of a building’s fire safety design and are vital in fire stopping and maintaining the building’s compartmentation. However, these systems are often installed incorrectly by non-specialists which can leave them open to vulnerabilities. Fortunately, our experienced fire stopping experts are here to help. Our team uses their knowledge and expertise to deliver tailored penetration sealing and fire stopping services that work for your building.

Passive fire protection methods operate without external energy or human intervention, hence the term 'passive'. These methods aim to compartmentalise fires within designated areas to allow for safe evacuation of people and intervention by emergency services. Various methods are used to target different aspects of building integrity.

Our Products & Services Include:

Fire Barriers

A frequent issue we encounter in buildings is unsealed spaces between internal and external walls. If these cavities remain unsealed, they can create a chimney effect that accelerates vertical fire spread rapidly. Installing a cavity barrier effectively prevents fire from spreading between compartments in large buildings.

Structural Steel Protection
Applying intumescent coatings provides insulation at elevated temperatures, enhancing the structural integrity of your steel-framed building. This passive fire protection service can be applied by our highly skilled team at any phase of a commercial building's construction. The intumescent coating reacts to fire by forming a charred layer over the steel, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 200°C.

Air Sealing
Air sealing offers numerous benefits, including reduced heating and cooling costs, improved air quality, enhanced building durability, and minimised environmental impact. In the event of a fire, preventing air leakage not only inhibits flame spread but also promotes energy efficiency, which is cost-effective in the long run. Fire Immunity specialises in delivering effective and long-lasting air sealing solutions at competitive rates. We use premium materials to seal leaks and gaps in building structures, enhancing thermal efficiency and fire protection.

Compartmentation Surveys
These surveys involve accessing roof spaces, ceiling voids, floor voids, and other enclosed areas to assess fire compartments. The evaluation includes inspecting existing compartments, such as doors, floors, and ceilings, to determine their effectiveness in containing fire and smoke spread. The time needed for building occupants to escape is determined based on fire safety regulations, which consider the building's size and layout.

Compounding
Ideal for sealing gaps around cables and pipes entering interior and exterior walls, a fire protection compound prevents air circulation. When exposed to heat, it forms a gas and smoke-tight seal, offering up to 4 hours of additional fire protection. At Fire Immunity, we offer this passive fire protection service, including replacing older compounds with newer, more effective materials.

… And more.

In the UK, there are over 20,000 commercial fires reported each year. A fire in a commercial building can have devastating financial and safety consequences, leading to property damage and potential loss of life. Failing to meet legal requirements can result in severe consequences. Therefore, engaging fire prevention experts to implement necessary fire protection measures is a crucial investment in safety and compliance for your business.

Passive fire protection is a specialised field that integrates fire stopping techniques with cutting-edge technology to safeguard buildings or premises in the event of a fire.
