Bespoke Internal Joinery

Bespoke Internal Joinery

Welcome to Heritage & Contemporary Joinery, where craftsmanship meets luxury to create timeless interiors for discerning individuals. As bespoke joinery manufacturers specialising in internal architectural joinery, we take pride in preserving the grandeur of your period property producing mouldings that are historically accurate to your home’s original architecture.

If you live in a typical Georgian or Victorian property then there’s a good chance your home will have some examples of bespoke joinery items, typically deep skirting boards, wide architraves, plinth blocks, picture rails, dado rails and wall panelling with intricate features that you simply can’t get off the shelf today.

Within our workshop, we can recreate and manufacture any shape, size, and style of original architectural joinery to ensure that your property retains its unique character. All our work is made to order in a variety of materials from Tulip wood for a painted finish to exotic hardwoods for a natural luxury finish.
Bespoke Handmade Sliding Sash Windows

Bespoke Handmade Sliding Sash Windows

Designed to complement and enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of any property, sliding sash windows work in both contemporary and traditional settings.
Having been around since the mid-17th century, these windows have certainly stood the test of time, with only slight design changes during the Georgian and Victorian era’s. Today, they retain many of the charming design characteristics they have become renowned for and are still perfectly equipped to meet the many demands of modern life.
Traditional Box Sash Windows

Traditional Box Sash Windows

Perfectly at home in both classic and contemporary properties, the traditional sash window boasts a wide outer box frame, used to conceal the pulley and weights system. This easy-to-use system has been utilised for centuries in order to counterbalance the weight of the sashes for ease of opening. A simple but effective operating mechanism allows sash windows to be crafted in larger sizes, as seen with the large windows commonly found in Victorian and Georgian properties.
Extremely versatile, functional, and durable, traditional box sash windows sit behind the first leaf of a masonry wall in a rebated reveal, only showing a narrow site line of the wide outer box frame. With narrow glazing bar profiles they create an elegant look for period properties.
Spiral Balance Box Sash Windows

Spiral Balance Box Sash Windows

Spiral balance box sash windows are a great addition to any property, instantly adding style and charm to traditional and modern homes. If you’re looking for high quality performance and stunning aesthetics, spiral balance box sash windows should certainly be your first port of call.
The use of spiral balance operation for sliding sash windows has continued to increase in popularity, due to the fact that their narrow frame means that the outer frame sits perfectly within the modern methods of constructing cavity walls with flush reveals.
Internal Period Doors

Internal Period Doors

As with the architectural mouldings internal doors in period properties were often a more detailed and grander offering, unlike some of the modern off-the-shelf equivalents, also doors were often a lot wider than the modern standardised size.

Here at Heritage & Contemporary, we can handmake and reproduce any style of door, in any size reproducing detailed moulding and panels to create a solid timber handcrafted door. We still make doors the traditional way using mortice and tenon joints and solid timber for all structural elements.
If you are extending your home and require additional doors then opting for a premade modern door will somewhat change the flow and feel throughout your home, by getting exact reproductions of your original doors you can ensure you will have a seamless flow throughout your home, and preserve the original design.

If your internal doors require a fire rating then we can manufacture doors with an internal intumescent core, whilst still displaying the traditional appearance, this is typical when carrying a loft conversion that will then require a few of the internal doors to be uprated to offer a degree of fire resistance.
Entrance Doors

Entrance Doors

The entrance to your property is the first impression visitors will get of your home. With this in mind, your front door should be functional and inviting, while enhancing the rest of your property. After all, there’s nothing quite like a grand entrance!

With this in mind, you can rest assured that all of our products are available fully factory finished, with the option to apply any of the major leading manufacturer’s paint systems on request.
Our preferred supplier is Teknos, one of the world’s leading industrial coatings manufacturers for external wood coatings. Their paint system is used by the majority of the major European window and door manufacturer.
Here at Heritage & Contemporary Joinery, we meticulously follow the Teknos paint procedure to ensure that all our joinery items are end-grain sealed, with fine fillers, anti-stain primers and waterborne topcoats all applied, as per manufacturer’s 3-coat system. With the correct aftercare, the Teknos paint system can last up to 10 years, with up to 12 years when applied on Accoya products.
We can supply finishes mixed in any RAL number, British Standards colour, or any of the colours from some of the most popular independent paint companies such as Farrow & Ball, Little Green and Benjamin Moore. We also can also offer painting in dual colours which allows you to use a striking feature colour externally, with a more neutral colour internally.

 Skirtings & Architraves

Skirtings & Architraves

Skirting boards and architraves are the pieces of internal joinery that most people will be familiar with, originally a purely functional piece of joinery that covered the gap between the wall and floor junction and protected door frames, however these mouldings over time evolved into becoming an important feature that elevates the design of a period home, allowing architects and homeowners to display their design flair by creating detailed and intricate designs, often used as somewhat of a status symbol to display wealth and elegance.

Over the years in modern homes, we seem to have drifted back to these being more of a functional role with smaller and minimalistic styles.

If you are extending or renovating a period property then maintaining these original joinery features is paramount, just like original cornices and covings all these important details define your home and help to preserve its historical integrity, also these features are highly desired when coming to sell your home.
