Conductive Elastomers

Conductive Elastomers are fully cured silicones or fluorosilicone loaded with a variety of highly conductive particles providing superior EMI/RFI shielding performance combined with excellent environmental sealing for dust and water. The various conductive fillers are designed to ensure galvanic compatibility whilst providing low contact resistance between
mating surfaces.

Form in Place Gaskets

Form in Place Gaskets

Kemtron Form in Place Gasket Elastomer compounds are directly dispensed onto component hardware or enclosure via a pressurised fluid dispensing system on a numerically controlled XYZ table to create a form in place gasket for EMI shielding and/or environmental seal for dust and moisture. The dispensing machine deposits the form in place gasket by following a pre-determined CNC path to provide accuracy and repeatability.

Kembond is a range of electrically conductive adhesives that provide a variety of RFI / EMI shielding and grounding solutions. They consist of a densely loaded adhesive filled with Micro sized highly conductive particles to make a strong and effective conductive glue.
Oriented Wires in Silicone

Oriented Wires in Silicone

Solid and sponge silicone populated with vertically oriented monel or aluminium wires up to 140/sq cm. Provides excellent shielding with EMP survivability and will also provide an environmental seal. Available as sheet stock, strip or die cut to customer design and can be easily fabricated for large picture frame gaskets. Also available with self adhesive backing and compression stops or collars can be fitted to prevent over compression.

Woven Wire Mesh in Elastomers

Aluminium woven wire mesh or expanded monel or aluminium sheet impregnated with silicone, fluorosilicone or synthetic rubber. Provides an excellent EMI and environmental seal, the metal reinforcement eliminates cold flow due to over compression. Available as sheet or die cut gaskets, particularly suitable for Mil connector gaskets.

A composite of metal mesh impregnated with an elastomer sheet, creating a highly conductive and resilient gasketing material for EMI shielding and environmental sealing applications.

Elastomer Cored Knitted Wire Mesh

This product is a knitted wire mesh over an elastomer core such as neoprene or silicone cellular or tube. Usually this consists of 2 layers of knitting over the elastomer core but small sections 1.5mm diameter requiring only 1 layer. The knitted mesh is then formed into the selected profile making a continuous gasket strip which is flexible and compressible and which makes an excellent RFI/EMI/EMP gasket.

This product consists of a knitted wire mesh tape that is formed into a solid profile that is then over knitted making a continuous gasket strip. The conductive metallic knitted wire mesh is flexible and compressible which makes an excellent EMI gasket.

Fabric over Foam - Conductive Fabric

Our Fabric over foam products are manufactured from a synthetic polyester or nylon yarn which is plated to create a conductivity over the surface of the fibre and then woven in a traditional way so as to produce a conductive fabric. The cloth is then slit and wrapped over a soft polyether polyurethane foam core in a range of profiles to create our specialist fabric over foam products. This results in an economically priced conformable conductive gasket strip suitable for many applications.

Beryllium Copper Finger Stock

Beryllium copper (BeCu) spring finger stocks and contact gaskets are manufactured by punching or etching thin BeCu strip which is pressed and formed into the required final shape and then heat treated to give it ‘memory’. Due to their high conductivity, BeCu gaskets provide good EMI/RFI shielding together with low closure force properties and are available in a number of plated finishes and mounting styles. In certain closing applications the ‘wiping’ action enhances EMI shielding performance. The end product results in a low resistance contact finger stocks with excellent anti- corrosion properties that remains flexible within acceptable limits for many years.

Kemtron’s Electrically conductive foam is a low density PET and polyurethane foam which is copper + nickel coated throughout giving X,Y and Z axis low resistance electrical conductivity thereby giving excellent EMI shielding performance when used as an EMI gasket. The material is UL94V-1flame retardant.

Connector Gaskets

Kemtron has tooling for a wide range of standard MIL connector gaskets. Different materials are available to meet the demands of EMI shielding, environmental sealing, galvanic compatibility and fuel/oil resistance.

Kemtron manufacture a range of connector gaskets to suit many standard size connectors which require an EMI shielding with optional environmental seal. The choice of material is vast and connector gaskets are available from virtually all of the materials manufactured by Kemtron. Listed below are a range of connector gaskets available from our own tools, also a list of the more common materials and thicknesses. If those listed below do not meet with your exact requirements, we would be pleased to manufacture gaskets to your own design using inexpensive tooling.

Aluminium Honeycomb Vent Panels

Aluminium honeycomb vent panels for air flow consist of an aluminium honeycomb foil held in a rigid extruded aluminium mounting frame. The foil, formed and laminated into a series of honeycomb cells that are glued and perforated or laser welded at the join, ensures a conductive path at each join. Although the foil is conductive in all directions, to enhance EMI performance, two pieces of honeycomb polarised at 900 to each other are recommended.

Shielding is achieved by using Waveguide design principles (Honeycomb Cell dia X length by 4). The frame can be supplied with an integral or separate EMI/RFI gasket, and can be treated with a variety of finishes to provide corrosion protection or improve conductivity.

Aluminium EMC & dust filter ventilation panels consist of 3 layers of pleated aluminium woven mesh trapped between an expanded aluminium kick-plate then held in a rigid extruded aluminium mounting frame, The frame can be supplied in a range of sizes and profiles and panels can be treated with a variety of finishes to provide corrosion protection or improve conductivity.

Ventilation Panels can be provided with additional EMI gasketing or environmental sealing if required for extra emi and sealing protection.

Aluminium screen EMC & dust filter ventilation panels consist of multi-layer expanded aluminium foil mesh trapped in a rigid extruded aluminium mounting frame, the frame can be supplied in a choice of sizes and profiles. Ventilation panels can be treated with a variety of finishes to provide corrosion protection. Ventilation panels with a gasket groove have a knitted Monel wire mesh gasket as standard. Other frames can be provided with an additional EMI Gasket for extra EMI and sealing protection.

Steel Honeycomb Vent Panels are designed for high performance applications, where high attenuation is required particularly in the H field.

Steel Honeycomb Vent Panels consist of a steel honeycomb foil soldered in to a rigid fabricated mounting frame. The foil formed and laminated into a series of honeycomb cells that are welded at the join, ensures a conductive path at each join.

The frame can be supplied with an integral or separate EMI / RFI gasket, and can be treated with a variety of finishes to provide corrosion protection or improve conductivity and EMP protection.

EMI Shielded Windows

EMI Shield windows that provide a high level of EMI shielding while maintaining optimum optical transparency.

Screening or shielding of optical windows is achieved by using either: very fine woven wire mesh trapped between or embedded in a clear optical substrate such as acrylic, polycarbonate or glass, or A transparent vapour deposited conductive coating such as Indium Tin Oxide or Gold applied to the surface of the clear optical substrate.

Termination of the EMI Shield windows to the enclosures is achieved with a continuous low resistance conductive edge around the window, either a conductive buss bar and conductive gasket, or extended wire mesh.

EMI Shielding Cable Glands

Kemtron’s cable glands provide an excellent EMI shield for screened cables which pass through enclosure walls. Made from brass they are available to suit cables from 1.5mm diameter up to 16mm. They also provide traditional strain relief for the cable.

The EMC cable glands are manufactured in brass and consist of 4 parts. The body, cap, locknut and the mesh olive. The Cable Entry Gland uses a wire mesh olive, which consists of knitted wire mesh over a silicone core which when compressed by the cap being tightened to the body provides circumferential pressure to both the cable and gland body, giving excellent electrical conductivity.

Cable Shielding Jackets & RFI Shielding

Zip on type tubing with internal EMI/RFI shielding liner for shielding of bundled cables. Easy to open and close so cables can be added or removed. Tubing is available in many diameters and is suitable for static or flexible applications. Flame retardant and low smoke/low toxicity versions are also available.

Kemzip is a cable shielding product designed to be wrapped around cables requiring EMI/EMC protection. It is especially suitable for retrofitting to products already in production that are suffering from RFI radiation or conducted emission susceptibility problems. UV, ozone and weather resistant, self-extinguishing materials operating over a minimum temperature range of -30°C to +105°C.

Electrically conductive tape is manufactured by applying a conductive adhesive to one or both surfaces of a metal foil such as conductive copper shielding tape or Aluminium. This is then either self wound or has a separate release liner applied. This is then slit to standard or custom widths.

EMI Shielding Laminates

Metal foils laminated to various non conductive backings, can be die cut to shape or scored and formed into a three dimensional shield. Laminates providing a cost effective light weight EMI shield that eliminate the need for an Electrically conductive coating on the inside of the enclosure.

Custom designed shielding Laminates are manufactured by pressing electrically conductive metallic material, which is then laminated to another substrate often a non-conductive material such as melinex. The conductive media can be insulated across the whole surface or selective areas. This can then be made self adhesive backed.

Absorber materials are used for EMI isolation and RF absorption. They are available in different materials to provide absorption from as low as 5MHz up to 40 GHz. Comprising materials such as loaded urethane, silicone, nitrile and neoprene, there are many choices available to provide products that can be characterised to provide absorption at single or multiple frequencies.

Board Level Shielding Cans

Board Level Shielding Cans

PCB shielding cans provide effective isolation of board level components. Photo etching is the most cost effective production method and being custom made, the cans can be manufactured to incorporate a range of design features to suit individual applications. Our sales department should be contacted to discuss requirements.

Custom designed shielding cans are manufactured by photo etching or pressing electrically conductive metallic material, which is then folded and soldered or tabbed to form a continuous shield. They can have a removable or a fixed integral lid and they are then mounted on a PCB covering single or multiple components to provide excellent EMI shielding.
