Sandblasting Stone & Cedar

Sandblasting Stone & Cedar

The material is sandblasted carefully by our production team, eating away at the exposed areas. Once the mask is removed, the edges of the text and graphics are crisp and defined.
Our design team will work with you to create the look and feel, once agreed, a specialist rubber mask is cut using our computer driven cutting equipment, which is in turn applied to the surface of the stone or cedar ready for sandblasting.
These areas of definition can be left alone to give a more natural appearance, more popularly though, they are enamel paint or oil filled by hand. Plaques can also be bonded to these areas if necessary, a technique often used for displaying more detailed logos and crests.
Working with sandstone, granite and marble, Ken White Signs can create the ultimate in maintenance free decorative signage, at an affordable cost.
The unique charismatic presence of a western red cedar sign brings an air of intrigue wherever it is seen. The finished product is very durable in all weather conditions and combined with a structured maintenance program will remain in pristine condition throughout its life.

Etching Zinc

Etching Zinc

The rise of our golf signage service in the late 90’s brought with it this fantastic service. Without the extra expense of moulds and casting of metal, we can produce cast-look, high definition, distinctive sign plaques.
Our design team will work with you to create the look and feel. Once agreed, a film positive is made, which is exposed against a coated zinc plate, which is then chemically etched to produce deep and defined text and graphics of very fine detail.
The plates are prepared and finished appropriately with a 2K paint system. Etched zinc plates need very little maintenance in their early life (first 3 − 5 years) but might need some attention beyond that if wanting to keep the plates in good condition.
Good examples of the end product in use can be found within the golf course signage section.
Contact us for further information about our zinc etching service.
Casting Metals

Casting Metals

Ken White Signs have been working with cast metal since the early 90’s, coming through particularly strong within the golf market during the turn of the century.
The traditional aged appearance of the cast metal product will always remain a popular player in the sign market.
Our design team will work with you to create the look and feel. Once agreed, real sized templates are made using CNC equipment or zinc/magnesium etching processes. Our foundry then creates the finished plate using a traditional sand casting process.
The bronze alternative delivers a very traditional looking product which is also very durable. The plaque is left as natural as possible with only a polish to the detail and light colour treatment to the background. Maintenance will involve a regular polish if wanting to retain the appearance throughout its life. The surface will never breakdown, meaning bronze products can always be restored to their original status without too much fuss.
The alloy equivalent involves a paint finish which serves a different purpose. Text and graphics can be made more easily read. Maintenance is less in its early life, but 5/7 years down the line the plaque is likely to need re-touching and ultimately at some point, re-painting.
Contact us for further information about casting bronze and aluminium.
GRP & Sub-Surface

GRP & Sub-Surface

GRP panels are arguably the most robust and durable sign products for outdoor environments where vandalism is a concern.
Constructed from a resilient and robust material, helping to prolong the signs life and reducing the effects that weathering and vandalism can have.
Interpretative signs are a popular use for this product, mainly because they are positioned where it is unlikely there will be a member of staff or guide, it leaves the sign open to those who find it amusing and enjoyable to destruct other people’s property, carrying out acts of vandalism and graffiti.
Detailed graphics are developed by our design team, printed then encapsulated into the glass reinforced plastic, this process has been found to extend the lifetime of a sign for more than 5 years.
Ken White Signs are able to assist in all matters of GRP sign production, our team can help you to select the appropriate options for almost any application.
All our GRP signs are produced to the highest standards and are supplied with a 5 year warranty against fading.
Amongst other more cost effective solutions are sub-surface vinyl graphic applications on clear polycarbonate or acrylic.

Illumination

Illumination

As the days are shorter and we’re in the dark for longer, it is important for you to stand out and get noticed. With this in mind it is important to consider the options available for illuminated signs and how to get the best value out of them. Ken White Signs can help you make this decision and deliver.
Gold Leaf Gilding

Gold Leaf Gilding

First traces of the use of gold leaf in sculpture or painting, date back to Egypt at around 2,500 BC; gold was the colour of the gods and the pharaohs.
More than 4000 years later and Ken White Signs are being commissioned by Trump International to replicate this very same finish on their granite entrances at Turnberry International Golf Resort in Scotland. This crowned nearly five decades, offering traditional gilding services in both gold leaf and silver leaf, for private schools, churches, golf courses, public houses and many other places of interest throughout the UK.
Working with one of the most wonderful, natural decorative finishes mankind has ever developed, Ken White Signs will deliver excellence and exceed expectations every time.

3D Manufacture

3D Manufacture

The cutting edge technology at Ken White Signs allows us to model virtually anything using 3D software, even from a simple line drawing or photo.
Using the latest computer aided design and modelling capabilities you can view a 360 degree model of your sign before production. This allows you to visualise how your finished 3D model will look before it is machined. Our specialist CNC machinery then creates a 3D version of the design.
3D crests can be machined from a vast array of materials, including aluminium, brass, foam, pvc, acrylic, hdu [high density urethane] and wood. We use traditional skills to hand paint detail and hand gild gold leaf, mixing proven traditional techniques with modern materials to create the most wonderful results.
This is undoubtedly one of the most recent advances in signage manufacture.
Contact us for further information about 3D manufacture.
Engraving Timber & Plastics

Engraving Timber & Plastics

Using state of the art computer driven CNC routing equipment, Ken White Signs will work with timbers and various styles of granite and marble-look resins to create some wonderful traditional looking sign products.
Our design team will work with you closely to control detail and look/feel. Once agreed the materials are then routed to any depth, to suit size of graphics. The engraved areas can be left natural (with timber), but are more popularly enamel paint filled.
The timber is then finished using top quality Osmo oils and coloured stains. The resins don’t need any treatment.
The timber product is very durable in all weather conditions and combined with a structured maintenance program will remain in pristine condition throughout its life.
The granite and marble-look resin panels don’t need any extra attention, they will remain in good condition for many years with very little maintenance.
Contact us for further information about engraving timber and resins.

Eco-Friendly Solutions

Eco-Friendly Solutions

Ken White Signs are committed to supporting the needs of the environment and are constantly making efforts to develop operations in order to support the wider issues.
Massive steps were made back in 2002, when we introduced a range of recycled plastic signs to our ever increasing range of golf course specific signage. Within this particular initiative we are trying to promote the use of recycled plastic as a replacement for timber. It has proved a slow starter, but is becoming ever more popular as the wider issues become more sensitive.
Whilst attempting to promote an intelligent and forward thinking message, we are realistic and it is obvious that the habits of the customer aren’t going to change overnight. With this is mind we have no option but to focus most of our eco attention on ways of making core services more environmentally friendly.
Vitreous & Stove Enamelling

Vitreous & Stove Enamelling

Vitreous enamelling is an exciting addition to the Ken White Signs portfolio, an exceptionally durable surface finish that withstands all the elements, is easy to maintain and boasts excellent longevity.
A vitreous enamel surface finish is achieved by fusing glass particles to sheet metal or cast iron by firing it at a temperature in excess of 800°C. The result is a surface that is incredibly hardwearing to all the elements, is temperature resistant (up to 800°C) and chemical resistant with exceptional colour stability.
The finished enamelled product is easy to maintain, clean and hygienic, meaning it can be used for many applications internally and externally.
Our vitreous enamel is available in a wide range of colours, with screen printed graphics (block and 4 colour photographic images). Our design team once again has no limits with this product, the ability to reproduce graphics to any level of detail.
Screen & Direct Printing

Screen & Direct Printing

These specialist print services are particularly useful when working with multiple sign orders. Ken White Signs can work with both of these processes if it helps keep a project within budget.
Screen printing has stood the test of time and is still very efficient for larger runs of the same design, particularly popular with estate agent boards. We are able to print on many different substrates, from plastics, dibond, painted metal, to clothes and merchandise.
Direct print is becoming ever more popular for small and medium print runs, direct to substrate. There are situations where cost savings can be made by cutting out the vinyl print/application process.
