Crankshaft Refurbishment
LC&M offers a complete assessment and extensive refurbishment service.
The unique facilities allows for recondition/repair on all types of crankshafts from steam to modern high-speed diesel, with abilities to grind and polish crankpin and main bearing diameters up to 20”/510mm. Crankshaft lengths of up to 11000mm/400” can easily be accommodated.
On receiving a used crankshaft, an initial inspection is carried out. This includes non-destructive tests such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle and liquid penetrant. A dimensional inspection is carried out where diameters, straightness, half stroke and angularities are checked. A hardness survey will also be conducted. All this will be analysed to determine a salvage procedure. Chrome plating or metal spray build ups are available via our approved sub-contractors if required.

With the installation of the company’s CMM machine in 2014, we can offer a measuring footprint of 1900 x 900 x 500 (mm) allowing inspection of crankshafts up to 1900mm (74.80 inches) in length x 331 mm Diameters (13 Inches) and a max weight of 750 kgs, the parts undergo 100%-Dimensional inspection to customer drawing.
The inspection is also inclusive of:

Dye Penetrant
Magnetic particle flaw detection
100% Visual checks
Document Material Pack including Material Test Certificate
All as per the customer requirements.

LC&M Ltd provides complete turnkey production of finished-machined steel and SG cast iron crankshafts, handling weights from 50 kg to 16 tonnes. Services include series production or custom orders, forging and casting sourcing, and in-house non-destructive testing (NDT). The company’s machining capabilities cover an extensive range, including a 5-axis WFL machine (5m x 1m Ø), TP 75 Lathe (3.5m x 840mm Ø), Crawford Swift Lathe (14m x 1m Ø), and advanced grinders and CNC machines, such as the Tacchi HD1/140 L, with a maximum capacity of 8m in length and 2m in diameter.
Crankshaft Refurbishment
LC&M provides comprehensive crankshaft assessment and refurbishment services, supporting a wide range of crankshafts from historic steam models to modern high-speed diesel. With facilities capable of handling crankshafts up to 11,000mm in length and 510mm in diameter, LC&M offers precision grinding, polishing, and specialised repairs. Upon receiving a crankshaft, the team performs thorough inspections, including ultrasonic and magnetic particle testing, dimensional checks, and hardness surveys, to determine the best salvage approach. Additional restoration options, like chrome plating, are available through approved subcontractors. All work is closely coordinated with the customer, and LC&M can also meet third-party standards, such as LR, ABS, and DNV, as needed.
NDT & Inspection / Rectification Services
LC&M’s qualified inspection team provides a full in-house inspection service for both new and refurbished parts, ensuring compliance with customer specifications. Inspection methods include ultrasonic, dye penetrant, magnetic particle flaw detection, and comprehensive visual and dimensional checks. Since installing a CMM machine in 2014, LC&M can precisely measure parts up to 1900mm in length, 331mm in diameter, and 750 kg in weight, allowing for 100% dimensional inspection against customer drawings. Each inspection package includes a Document Material Pack with a Material Test Certificate, fully tailored to meet customer requirements.
