A Wide Range of Fire Alarm Detection Systems
Fire alarm systems, complete with their detection devices, comprise a core part of building and life safety, with their quality and accuracy being of paramount importance in preventing damage and harm. From early detection through aspirated VESDA offerings, protection during emergencies via Refuge Systems and AOVs, and around-the-clock cover from Remote Signalling Systems to alert the fire brigade, a comprehensive fire alarm system designed, supplied, and maintained by Lightning Safety Systems can save lives and protect buildings.
Fire Suppression, Sprinklers, Dry Riser & Wet Riser Systems
Fire suppression systems are used to extinguish, contain, or in some cases entirely prevent fires from spreading or occurring. They have an incredibly large variety of applications and as such there are many different types of suppression systems for different applications being used today.
The three most common types of fire suppression systems are:
Water
A fire suppression system that relies on water is the most common type of system. You can choose from an automatic sprinkler system that turns on whenever it senses smoke, heat, or fire, or a manual sprinkler system that needs to be turned on in order to start working.
Chemical Agents
There are several chemical agents that can be used, one of which is Potassium Carbonate, a wet chemical often found in fire extinguishers. There are also a variety of dry chemicals that can be used in fire suppression systems.
Inert Gases
Once a fire starts, it needs a steady supply of oxygen to spread. Inert gases like Argon and purified Nitrogen can be used to ‘choke’ out a fire, cutting off its oxygen supply. A primary benefit of inert gases over water is that the latter can often cause damage to electrical equipment, furniture and property.
Supply & Commissioning of Fire Extinguishers
There are five types of fire extinguisher classification, class A, B, C and F Fire types and Electrical Fires:
Class A fires are fires in ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth and plastics.
Class B are flammable liquids
Class C are burning gases
Class F fires involve cooking oils or fats and differ from conventional liquid fires due to the high temperatures involved
Electrical Fires are fires involving potentially energised electrical equipment and can be fought with any extinguishing agent rated for electrical fires including CO2 and dry powder extinguishers

PAT Testing
Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination, but some types of defect can only be found through testing by a competent person, required at appropriate intervals depending upon the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used.
When undertaking combined inspection and testing, a greater level of knowledge and experience is needed than for a simple visual examination, and the qualified person will need:
The right equipment to do the tests
The ability to use this test equipment properly
The ability to properly understand the test results

Mission Statement:
“We protect property and save lives.” By achieving this objective on a consistent basis we ensure our customers are safe, compliant and able to trade.
Background Information:
The company was formed in 2008, however two current directors (Dave Green & Andy Beadle) effected an MBO in February 2017. Since then, two further directors, Kina Patel and Aaron Freeman, have joined the board to provide additional skills and expertise to our privately owned business.
The company is based close to Portsmouth on the south coast and currently employs approximately 47 people of which over half are a combination of external based engineers, Business Development Managers and surveyors, with the remaining staff being office based.
We operate predominantly from the Midlands downwards although we do have sites in the north and west of England and Scotland.
Products & Services:
Lightning Safety Systems install, design, supply, commission and maintain a wide range of fire, emergency lightning, security systems, electrical test & inspection (EICR) and remedial works.
Fire Alarms
We are very much an “open protocol” company who have extensive experience in conventional, two wire, addressable, AOV, VESDA, domestic (BS5839-6) wireless and suppression systems and extinguishers to name just some of the disciplines.
We have BAFE accreditation which enables us to sign off complete installations. We are very supportive of open protocol because it is most definitely in our customer’s best interests to have such a system at their premises as they have an extensive choice of service providers and normally significantly reduced costs on replacement parts throughout the life cycle of the system.
Emergency Lighting
We are predominantly involved with single point emergency lightning but can also provide central battery systems and static inverter systems.
Security Systems
We specialise in access control, CCTV and intruder alarm systems as well as also offering electronic tagging systems as well as gates, barriers and shutters.
Electrical
We conduct large numbers of electrical test & inspections (EICR) and all remedial works required in residential and commercial properties.
Planned Maintenance
We provide a planned maintenance service of all products and systems supplied.
Emergency Call Out
We offer a 24/7 emergency call out on all products and systems, business critical problems can be attended within three hours or less.
Contracts
We do not ask for contracts as we believe that customers should not be tied down with onerous and or lengthy contracts. If customers are happy with our service levels they are likely to stay with us, if they are not happy then they have every right to look elsewhere without the fear of a financial penalty to terminate a contract. However, should a customer specifically require a contract then we would be happy to agree to do so.
Routes to Market
We are especially strong in the hospitality sector where we look after large numbers of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs and also in the public sector where we provide a varied range of services to local authorities and housing associations. In addition, we also work very closely with electrical contractors and end users across many industry sectors.
Awards
We are a multi-award-winning company who are the proud recipients of nine awards over the last few years across our range of disciplines and services.
Ethos
We strive to work in a consultative partnership basis with customers for mutual benefit.
