We understand the limitations of physical storage space and security required to centralise your study specimens. Utilising off-site storage increases your laboratory workspace by reducing the amount of storage cabinets at your site and secures your samples for both temperature and access, enabling you to make more productive use of your valuable resources. To address this need, we offer the option of a comprehensive specimen storage management service using ItemTracker®. This sample tracking software has been developed to solve the challenges associated with specimen management.

We use a wide range of quality laboratory freezers from world leading manufacturers of refrigeration cabinets including: IlShin, New Brunswick, Revco, Sanyo, Queue and Thermo-Forma. For liquid nitrogen tanks our preferred suppliers are Statebourne, MVE & Taylor Warton. MTS Cryo Stores have their own equipment but can also house the client's equipment and place it within our comprehensive maintenance program.

MTS Cryo Stores have their own transport but can also use companies such as PDQ Specialist Couriers, World Courier, Yourway Transport, PDP and Cryoport as these are our supporting specialist courier companies. We will take the details of your shipping needs, arrange for collection, transport the samples at the desired temperature, deliver the samples to their destination and inform you of their arrival. We are able to offer you a status update at any time during the shipping. We can transfer samples between sites or to your customer's facility within the UK, Europe or anywhere else in the world if required.

MTS have recognised the need for Disaster Recovery Plans in the unfortunate situation of you potentially losing your biological samples. This can now be accommodated as part of the client's contingency plan. MTS have created a special service called “Sample Storage Disaster Recovery Standby Contract” with emergency couriers who can be on site between 4-6 hours from call-out with the right packaging and sufficient dry ice to pack all samples and ship to the MTS facility, where they will be stored safely. Alternatively we can arrange for the transport of your freezers/fridges or liquid nitrogen tanks containing your samples to our facility using our trucks. Fitted out with on board electricity, your equipment will maintain its temperature throughout the duration of the journey ensuring sample integrity is maintained.

The MTS Cryo Stores biological sample storage facility has 24 hour security and the freezers are accessible only by authorised personnel. Specimens are continually monitored for variation in the temperature range required to maintain their minimum critical threshold. If there is a malfunction or system failure, prior to reaching the minimum critical threshold, the monitoring system will immediately notify staff and direct them to the freezer in question for the resolution of the problem. Records of all action taken are detailed with regard to the fault. Back-up freezers/LN2 units are available to support the transfer of specimens in the event of a total equipment failure. All critical equipment and computer hardware are backed up with uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units and there is a diesel generator capable of providing power supply to all the freezers in the facility.

ItemTracker® is a complete laboratory sample management software solution. It has been designed and developed for the sole purpose of reliably and securely processing, storing and retrieving large quantities of specimens and is compliant with 21 CRF Part 11 .

ItemTracker is used today around the world in all life science disciplines across clinical and research establishments, from a single laboratory through to multiple sites with particular applicability in clinical trials.

ItemTracker automatically assigns a unique identifier to each sample and also provides traceability and the ability to demonstrate consent where applicable.

Used primarily by researchers, it is suitable for anyone wanting to track samples whether in storage, a laboratory or elsewhere. It is flexible enough to handle any number of different sample types.
