Protect Against the Risk of Fire - Fire Protection Solutions

Protecting against the risk of fire can be a scary business, the experts at OHEAP have all the knowledge, advice, products, and servicing experience you need to keep your business and property safe.

Make fire protection a priority with OHEAP Fire and Security.

At OHEAP we strive to provide everything you need to protect against the risk of fire. Whether you need a fire risk assessment, your fire extinguishers annually serviced or a new fire detection system installed, we are here to help you stay safe.
Extinguisher Servicing

Extinguisher Servicing

Fire extinguisher servicing involves a set procedure from within the British Standards, ensuring extinguishers are in working order if ever required during fire emergencies. The annual service includes all of the essentials, checking the extinguisher has not been used and ensuring nothing has been tampered with. Additionally, we must ensure the pressure gauge reading is correct, by pressure testing, checking for blockages in the discharge hose, weighing the extinguisher and replacing all O-rings and seals.

This ensures that a unit is fully compliant with the certification issued. Every fifth year on wet and powder units an extended service is carried out at site. The internal inspection can be done once emptied and a new extinguishant medium is used to refill these units, if compliant, they are then put back into service

Fire Extinguisher Servicing
Within the legislation that covers fire risk assessments, (Health and Safety at Work) there is a requirement for all types of extinguishers to be serviced, annually. OHEAP Fire and Security are specialists in maintaining all types of fire equipment, working with qualified, certificated technicians and within the British Standards 5306 parts 3, 8 and 9.
Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers

We offer a total fire extinguisher solution, addressing the specific fire risks of your premises and ensuring your compliance.

We are one of the very few fire extinguisher servicing companies in the UK that carry out a discharge test at 5 years. Whilst most servicing companies will simply scrap and replace all fire extinguishers at 5 years old, OHEAP will discharge them. They are then inspected for corrosion or erosion, refilled and commissioned for use for a further 12 months.
This process not only saves you money but reduces your carbon footprint as waste is reduced and you can feel 100% assured your extinguishers are all in good working order, with minimal waste.

All fire extinguishers supplied by us are British Standard Kite Marked to ensure quality and come with a 10-year guarantee as part of OHEAP Fire & Security’s maintenance services.

Fire Extinguishers & Accessories
Over the last 50 years, we’ve worked with the best manufacturers of fire extinguishers across the world, creating a range of top-quality products that will work when you need them most. We’re so confident in our range that we offer a 10-year guarantee.

Commissioning & Installation
Under British Standard BS 5306-3:2017 all new extinguishers are required to be commissioned by a competent person. This requires an individual with extensive knowledge and certification from the British Standards, to unpack, assemble and carry out a service, this is called a commission service. It is carried out on each new extinguisher, the purpose is to inspect each extinguisher and undertake a series of checks to ensure it is in good working order, then to label the unit and certificate as correct.
Fire Risk Assessment

Fire Risk Assessment

If you’re running a business, you know that there are few things more important than identifying fire hazards.

At OHEAP Fire & Security, we provide comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments to businesses and individuals, helping them to take the appropriate steps to prevent fires and injuries.

With an OHEAP Fire Risk Assessment, you’ll know exactly what your fire risks are and how to manage them.

Fire Risk Assessments
Fire risk assessments identify and assess the potential risks that may arise within your building. Helping you to identify areas in which your policies and procedures may need improvement. Additionally, we can identify any fire safety precautions you should be following to keep visitors and employees safe.

How Often Should A Fire Risk Assessment Be Reviewed?
Fire risk assessments are a legal requirement and should be reviewed annually. In addition, The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, requires a fire risk assessment to be reviewed if there are changes in the business. For example structural alterations, change of building use and increase in occupancy. For this reason a new fire risk assessment should be completed.

If you’re in need of an updated fire assessment or aren’t sure whether you are, get in touch. After that one of our Fire Protection Consultants can answer all of your questions.
Fire Door Systems

Fire Door Systems

What Is A Fire Door?
A fire door is a door that is specifically designed to slow the spread of fire through a building. It does this by delaying the passage of fire, heat, and smoke from one part of the building to another.

The door leaf and door frame must both meet regulations set by a governing body e.g. The British Woodworking Federation (BWF). Fire doors are able to keep flames at bay for at least half an hour.

FD30 − 30 minutes of fire protection
FD60 − 60 minutes of fire protection
FD90 − 90 minutes of fire protection
FD120 − 120 minutes of fire protection

Fire Door Surveys
Our team will carry out thorough inspections, where we will identify any issues with the door leaf, door frame, furniture, and surrounding elements.

Fire Door Repairs
After we’ve carried out our inspection, we will give you a complete, no-obligation, report of our findings with a breakdown of what needs to be done. If you are happy to proceed we will then carry out any repairs or replacements all of which will comply with appropriate British and International Standards.

Fire Door Installation
We can supply brand new BWF-certified fire doors in a range of sizes, styles, and finishes to suit your property and our certified Fire Door Engineers at OHEAP can also install these throughout your property.

We can also supply fire door hardware. From door handles to door closers, we can advise and supply the best accessories and hardware to ensure your doors are usable and compliant.

Fire Alarm Systems

Fire Alarm Systems

Very different to an intruder alarm, a fire alarm is a device that senses smoke, heat or flame and alerts occupants of the building by sounding an audible signal. It can be battery-powered or hardwired into the building’s electrical system.

Having a working and regularly serviced fire alarm is one of the most effective ways to protect your premises and staff from fires. At OHEAP our qualified and accredited engineers will design, install, test and service the best fire alarm systems for your premises.

Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting

Emergency evacuations are something we all hope to avoid. But if they do occur, are you 100% confident that you have an emergency lighting and signage system in place that could guide users of your building to an emergency exit?

Emergency signage and lighting is a key component of any building or facility. When there’s a power outage these systems can prevent the loss of life and injury, as well as enable people to evacuate buildings safely and quickly.

A system that allows people to see and exit a building in an emergency is a legal requirement for all buildings in the UK. Ensuring it is serviced annually and well maintained is your obligation as the building's responsible person.

OHEAP Fire and Security have been installing, servicing and maintaining emergency lighting systems to the highest standards for a very long time. Trust us with your emergency lighting today, and feel confident your emergency evacuation procedures will keep people safe.

Suppression Systems

Suppression Systems

A fire suppression system is an active fire protection measure. It consists of a purpose-designed pumping system which uses special gases and/or liquids to suppress fires.

Once the system’s automatic detection devices have detected a fire, the pump is activated. After that, either water or foam is expelled through hoses to extinguish the flames.

Protective Workwear

Protective Workwear

When it comes to choosing personal protective equipment, it’s important to consider the type of hazard you’re exposed to. You’ll also need to think about what type of safety clothing or equipment will be most comfortable for you or your employees to wear.

Hazardous Environments
If you work in a hazardous profession, it is important to have PPE or protective workwear to prevent injuries as a result of accidents. In construction, manufacturing and physical labour industries, the risk of injury is heightened, therefore the need for protective clothing is greater.

High Visibility Clothing
First invented in the 1930s and typically worn on the torso or arms, high visibility clothing is utilised in almost every industry. Often fluorescent or reflective, this material is designed to increase a person’s visibility in low light, low visibility or hazardous conditions.

Its ability to suit a multitude of industries has made high visibility extremely recognisable. Predominantly manufactured using fluorescent bright colours (orange or yellow), these garments are easily identifiable during the day. The reflective element of high-visibility clothing allows the garment to reflect light back to its source. This means that if a car’s headlights hit you, you will be much more visible to the driver.

Fire Retardant Workwear
Working with open flames, molten metals or extreme heat can cause devastating skin burns.

At OHEAP, we offer a wide range of flame retardant workwear that meets or exceeds all of the requirements set out by the EN ISO 11612 standard.
Our FR clothing possesses the ability to withstand ignition or self-extinguish once set alight. Often manufactured using natural resources such as wool or cotton, many of our garments are inherently fire retardant meaning they will withstand multiple washes.
Safety Footwear

Safety Footwear

According to HSE statistical analysis, 196,910 (29%) of accidents in 2016/17 were caused by slips. Some of these could have been prevented with correct footwear. Getting the right footwear will make life safer and easier.

At OHEAP Fire & Security we have a range of safety footwear available including safety shoes, safety boots, rigger boots, wellingtons, waders, footwear accessories, disposable overshoes and socks.

Safety Is A Priority
Safety is a priority for workers in many industries and if you want to stay safe on the job, then a pair of safety shoes are an absolute must. With so many different types of safety footwear available it can be hard to know which ones offer the best protection.

The right kind of footwear can protect against serious injuries such as broken bones and torn ligaments caused by impact or penetration.

Safety Footwear Standards
The safety footwear standard is referred to as EN ISO 20345. The EN ISO 20345 standard sets out the minimum requirements that safety footwear must be successfully tested against.
First Aid Equipment

First Aid Equipment

It is in an employer’s interest to ensure the provision of first aid apparatus and relevant first aid training in the workplace in order to deal with accidents as quickly and efficiently as possible, consequently ensuring that casualties avoid serious injury or death, and have the best chance to make a full recovery.

Based on the first aid needs assessment it is important for you to consider the different types of hazards in each of your workplace locations and ensure they are catered for with appropriate first aid kit supplies.

What Is The Health and Safety Regulations 1981 Act?
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.
