Anechoic Test Chambers

Anechoic Test Chambers

At QuietStar, we provide a complete turnkey service for acoustic testing facilities, including full anechoic test rooms and semi-anechoic test facilities. Our acoustic testing facility design end to end service starts from the initial design overview and concept, then to manufacture, delivery, installation, final testing and finally commissioning of the acoustic test facility.

We work with you to understand your needs and our comprehensive service means we deliver the optimum acoustic test facility for you, by designing a building which is fit for purpose, utilises the available space effectively and performs to your specified criteria.

With over 60 years combined experience in designing and installing acoustic test facilities, we have extensive industry relationships. We work closely with some of the best product suppliers globally and international dynamometer companies, ensuring you the highest quality acoustic testing facilities on the market.
Semi-Anechoic Chambers

Semi-Anechoic Chambers

Much like full anechoic facilities, semi-anechoic chambers (sometimes referred to as Hemi-Anechoic Chambers) are lined with absorbent materials, however the floor is left as a flat finish with no absorption. Semi-anechoic chambers are more common and still allow very precise measurements to be taken, but the free-field area is only half a sphere (or hemisphere, hence the name Hemi-Anechoic). Hemi-anechoic chambers offer an ideal solution to testing large or heavy items as there is no need for a specialised floor to cover any wedges found in full anechoic laboratories.

Although some design issues are overcome with semi-anechoic chambers, facilities are usually large in size and have complex requirements to suit the product being examined. In the case of taking acoustic measurements for a large generator as an example, it is not simply a case of placing the item in the middle of the lab and taking the necessary measurements. The following are just some of the elements which enable such a facility to operate effectively:

Silent ventilation system capable of passing large volumes of air into the hemi-anechoic chamber when an engine is running
Fuel system for powering the generator whilst on test
A silenced extraction system for removing all of the noxious fumes from the enclosure
Heating / cooling system to ensure that a constant temperature and humidity are kept inside the chamber to get the most consistent results
A control and monitoring system for engineers to use to effectively run the hemi-anechoic chamber
All the above (and many more possible options) need to be carefully considered at the planning stage of the hemi-anechoic enclosure in order to get the best possible results for the end-user.
Anechoic Refurbishment & Repairs

Anechoic Refurbishment & Repairs

Acoustic testing has vastly increased over the past 20 years, with tighter regulations and expectations for sound across multiple industries. Technological and material advances have matched this, rendering some older facilities inefficient, unsafe or unfit for purpose.

A high percentage of our Anechoic Chamber work is refurbishment of testing facilities over 10 years old, modernising with next-gen acoustic wedges, high quality lighting, improved ventilation and acoustic doors. We refurbish acoustic chambers to the highest standards that your budget will allow, complying with all modern day standards whilst improving accessibility, usability and aesthetics.
Anechoic Chambers

Anechoic Chambers

QuietStar is a UK anechoic chambers supplier. Anechoic chambers are unique acoustic testing enclosures used for research and development, enabling engineers and scientists to take precise acoustic measurements. Full anechoic (meaning no echo) rooms are lined on all six internal faces with absorbent material to completely absorb sound reflections in all directions. The lack of reflective surfaces in effect offers a complete free-field sphere around the object being evaluated meaning precise acoustic measurements can be taken from all directions. This is particularly important when trying to pinpoint sources of noise from a test subject.

At QuietStar we use wedges in the construction of our anechoic chambers, as these have been proven to absorb sound waves better than flat panels. The more absorption, the better the results for any research and development. Depending on what is being examined in the laboratory, access to the anechoic room may be via an acoustically transparent floor, or hung from wires / harness points located on the inner surfaces. For heavy or bulky items, our chambers can also be designed with a structural steel meshed floor to allow items to be manoeuvred into place with ease. QuietStar has even designed chambers with mechanically retractable floors which allow people to walk around the chamber and set up acoustic experiments and then once they are outside, simply retract the floor to maintain the absorbent finish.

Acoustic Windows

Acoustic Windows

The acoustic windows range from QuietStar is matched to that of our acoustic doors. When choosing noise control products for an acoustic studio, requiring sound isolation, it is important to ensure that all components are evenlymatched in order to mitigate any weaknesses in the structure. So QuietStar can match the sound insulating efficacy of your window or glazed screen to the capabilities of your soundproof door, for all round effectiveness.

Using multiple panes of glass, ranging from 6.8mm to 25mm for individual glass sheets, the soundproofing performance capabilities are huge. Using a unique timber frame system that is decoupled from the host wall to minimise the potential for vibration isolation, the design helps in ensuring the best possible acoustic seal for soundproof windows. A combination of different pane thicknesses and varying air gaps are used for studio windows and glazed screens depending on the host wall thickness, its construction and the required acoustic performance for studio sound insulation.
Fire-Rated Acoustic Windows

Fire-Rated Acoustic Windows

Acoustic fire windows are an increasingly popular choice for applications where safety is paramount. Our range of fire-rated windows perfectly complement our range of fire-rated doors. Manufactured using an all-steel construction, the combination of sizes and fire ratings is almost infinite.

Glazing units can be manufactured up to 4 metres high with almost limitless widths meaning limitations are only met by standard glass sizes. QuietStar offer a range of different glass types to complement the insulation and integrity ranges of the frames.

In terms of acoustic performance, our range of fire-rated windows, these can be matched to our standard acoustic window range. With a maximum acoustic performance of around 70dB for standard wall thicknesses, most applications should be catered for by our standard range.

All of our acoustic fire windows are constructed as double-glazed units with the fire-rated glass on the critical side of the opening whilst the other is typically sealed using standard laminated safety glass of a suitable thickness to accommodate the acoustic requirement.

Industrial Noise Control

Industrial Noise Control

QuietStar specialises in industrial noise control and has solutions for all aspects of industrial acoustics including soundproofing factory noise and loud equipment, as well as acoustic insulation for mechanical plants and compounds.

Industrial acoustics covers a wide range of requirements and specifications. We recognise that certain projects require greater flexibility, depending on whether your structure is static and permanent or mobile and temporary, such as noisy construction work, which may involve scaffolding. Therefore we offer both fixed and temporary acoustic solutions.

All of our industrial noise control products can be used as standalone items for specific applications, such as soundproofing noisy machinery, or be combined with other products, for example our acoustic doors and acoustic windows to offer a fully tailored industrial noise control service. We can also provide acoustic louvres, when soundproofing factory noise where ventilation is required, as is the case when sound-insulating generators, turbines and transformers.

For all of our industrial acoustic projects, QuietStar is able to offer a full turnkey service including project management, design, civil works and take on the role of lead contractor.
Acoustic Barriers

Acoustic Barriers

In addition to offering complete soundproof enclosures to shield noisy equipment, QuietStar is also able to provide standalone acoustic barriers. With the capability to offer a fully tailored service to include the following where necessary:

Full project management

Calculated performance
All of our acoustic barriers are manufactured using modular components which are designed with acoustic performance in mind. Whilst functional, aesthetics also play a vital role in selecting the best possible solution. Panels can be designed to match an existing building façade using different colours and finishes. Predominately manufactured using an all steel construction, QuietStar also recognise that other materials are more suited to certain conditions and can accommodate requirements as such.
Acoustic Enclosures

Acoustic Enclosures

Quietstar designs and installs industrial acoustic enclosures suitable for a wide number of industrial soundproofing applications, from linear acoustic barriers, to complete 6 sided soundproof pods.

Manufactured with an all-steel rugged construction, our industrial acoustic products are not only durable enough to withstand the test of time, but also perform to noise reduction specification. The modular construction of acoustic pods means that multiple sized sound-insulated rooms can be built to almost any size by utilising structural steel as required.
Acoustic Louvres

Acoustic Louvres

QuietStar has an extensive range of acoustic louvres and can provide acoustic ventilation solutions to suit any application where both soundproofing and airflow are simultaneously required. Acoustic louvres offer the ideal solution to providing the necessary ventilation to mechanical plant equipment, while also reducing noise break-out. As well as being the perfect solution for airflow and noise pollution the QuietStar louvre design also lends itself to being suitable for both industrial and architectural type projects.

Acoustic louvres are a popular choice for shielding noisy chillers, generators, compressors, turbines, condensers and transformers. Aspects of such noisy machinery, for instance the need for airflow, often prevent the use of solid barriers. The blades found in QuietStar louvres are tightly packed with sound absorbing material, so reduce airborne noise and are an ideal alternative to a solid acoustic barrier which may cause machinery to overheat or operate inefficiently. Typically supplied in modular format, this helps with both the design and installation, meaning the overall size of your louvre can be accommodated by utilising a combination of units.
