On-line (VFI) UPS systems are regarded as 'high-end' and employ more sophisticated technology which uses a rectifier and inverter, hence "double-conversion". This effectively isolates the load from virtually all types of power supply problems.

VI (Voltage Independent).
The output voltage is NOT independent of the input, but there is a stabilization that reduces variations.
Corresponds to a Line-Interactive UPS with AVR function.

The output voltage is the same as the input. There is no corrections as stabilizers, filters or surge arresters (varistors).

Uninterruptible power supplies and standby power systems have consumable parts that will age with use. At some during the period of its life a power protection device will alarm due to a service issue - the batteries may need replacing, the fans may have failed or the system developed a PCB fault.

Electrical Installation

Our UPS service team provides electrical installation work using qualified engineers to the IEE regulations, 16th edition. The work covers the provision of the necessary electrical supplies, cables, distribution boards and MCBs necessary to connect and power the UPS, generator and bypass. The service provides cable 'tails' for connection when the UPS are commissioned. It can be provided on a 24/7 basis, inside or outside normal working hours.

All work is subject to quotation following a site power survey. All electrical installations are certified to NICEIC standards.

Battery Maintenance, Battery Testing and Replacement

UPS batteries are chemical energy storage devices that deteriorate over time. They have a design life based on optimum site conditions and an expected number of charge-discharge cycles. A five year design life battery will probably require replacement within year 4, and a ten year design life battery within year 7. Whilst many UPS and standby power systems automatically test their batteries, nothing beats a visual inspection and on-site testing.

Riello UPS provides a number of surveys to help assess the power problems affecting a site. These range from simple inspections of wiring to thermal imaging of suspected hot spots and the deployment of on-site data collection devices - mains, power usage, load sizing and harmonics. Riello UPS Ltd can complete a survey for any site across the UK and Eire. The results are collated into a final report which is issued to the client with recommendations.
