Architectural Signs

Signs of the Times are experts in the manufacture of architectural signs. With over 30 years in the business and a talented and knowledgeable staff we are more than happy to accept a challenge.
Our business is bespoke signs and particularly signs with detail in relief. Letters, border, logos, motifs and complicated coats of arms stand proud of the base or can be engraved.
Signs can be single or double sided (two cast panels fixed back to back), even curved to fit convex or concave walls.

Blue Plaques

English Heritage traditionally use Blue Plaques to indicate a place where a famous person once lived. The idea of erecting memorial tablets in London was first proposed by William Ewart MP in the House of Commons in 1863. The first plaque erected in London for the poet Lord Byron, was in 1867.
More recently we have used blue plaques to commemorate a famous person, as a lasting statement of the achievements of an individual or group of people or to mark a memorable event. They are also used to illustrate the history of a particular building or site, or erected to mark an historic occasion.

Beautiful cast signs depicting some interesting aspect of the place they are about to enter can make the difference. Bronze Castings

Bronze cast plaques have been erected on buildings and memorials for centuries. Whether they are a head and shoulders sculpture, a whole story or just text our signs are used on government and historical buildings, in parks, set into pavings and on houses.

Estate Signs

Estate signs need not be simply directional, they can be an attractive addition to the landscaping. Interest can be added by featuring a motif in relief. Adding your company logo can give immediate identification to the visitor.
Building signs, street signs and directional signs can follow a theme adding interest and giving sense of community.

Golf Club

Signs of the Times have provided signs for many of the UK’s most prestigious golf clubs over many years. Golf Club entrance signs are probably the most obvious amongst our range but consideration should be given to directional signs, building signs and of course the tee markers. Tee markers range from simple designs to signs with a map of the hole together with the ratings.

House Signs

Individual Letters

Bold beautiful individual letters with your logo faithfully reproduced. We specialise in manufacturing solid cast polyurethane letters painted any RAL colour. We also supply flat cut and and built up lettering in a wide range of materials. Back lit letters using LED’s and fixings to suit many substrates.

Memorial Signs

Memorials are erected for a multitude of reasons, to commemorate a special person, event or even a beloved pet. Memorial plaques can take many forms and are made from a variety of materials.

Pet Portraits & Memorial Plaques

We all love our pets and often we would like a way of remembering them after they are gone or celebrating them whilst they are still with us.
A portrait of your pet beautifully painted onto a commemorative memorial plaque, or onto a number/name plaque for your house is a lovely way to do just that.
We offer a range of shapes and sizes of plaques which can be finished in your choice of colour. All we need is for you to provide us with a good photograph of your dog, cat, horse, or what ever your favourite pet is, and our skilled artists will reproduce this in long lasting paints.

Refurbishment

Signs of the Times offer a full refurbishment service for signs manufactured from most types of material.
After making a photographic record of the detail, castings are stripped of their original faded coat of paint either by sandblasting or chemically washing. New colours are then added by our skilled artists returning the signs to their former glory.
Metal signs can sometimes be restored with a simple intense polishing but occasionally they need a little more work such as enamel or gold leaf
In 2005 Signs of the Times were commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council to refurbish signs that we had manufactured for them some 12 years previously.

School Signs

As manufacturers of finely detailed cast signs, Signs of the Times have been commissioned by many prestigious schools to make their signs.

Street Signs − Die Pressed

Die pressed aluminium street signs are very popular with councils and estate managers. Being a budget sign they are suitable for areas that have financial restraints whilst remaining a clear and sustainable product.

Village Centre Signs

Decorative Village Signs seem to have been initiated during the reign of King Edward VII when he commissioned signs to be erected in villages on the Sandringham Estate. Since that time signs have appeared all over the country, marking the centre of a village or town. They often depict the history and culture of the area and new village signs are a great way of celebration, bringing communities together to decide on the content and appearance of their village centre piece.

Established in 1984, Signs of the Times are a Bedfordshire-based manufacturer of cast sign solutions and street furniture, catering for a diverse range of industries and sectors throughout the UK and beyond. With over 150 years of collective experience in the design and distribution of bespoke signs, letterboxes, plaques and fingerposts, our company originally created cast iron signs for railways and canals spread throughout the country, until our founders eventually decided to move onto both domestic and commercial applications no matter how large or small.
