Noise Control

Noise Control

SDS manufactures a wide range of materials and products to control noise. In many cases, the result is a very elegant engineering solution that is both highly effective and very low cost.
Our products are particularly effective in high hygiene or other applications in food, pharmaceutical or electronic industries where conventional noise control materials pose problems relating to contamination, cleaning or durability.
Damped Sheet Metal

Damped Sheet Metal

Sound damped metal sheets are available in a wide range of thickness and metals such as galvanised or stainless steel and aluminium (other materials by request).
These damped sheets can then be used either during OEM component and product manufacturing or to re-manufacture particular elements during retro-fit to provide dramatic reductions in noise and vibration.
Adhesive Dampers

Adhesive Dampers

These are specifically designed to be retro-fitted to reduce noise and vibration in existing structures or components, either during OEM manufacture or to damp key elements on existing plant.
Retro-dampers allow the user to create a high damping laminate quickly and easily in situ on existing panels.
Enclosure Enhancement

Enclosure Enhancement

We can provide bespoke, custom designed and manufactured acoustic enclosure performance enhancement kits for particular applications, for one off projects or for OEM ranges. This can also extend to developing design improvements for existing OEM enclosures where the attenuation provided by the standard enclosure needs to be increased.
Available either as retro-fit or designed in from the start, our performance enhancing kits provide a very effective and low cost option to increase enclosure attenuation substantially.
Acoustic Absorbent Panels

Acoustic Absorbent Panels

In circumstances where sources are within highly reverberant areas and the noise is dominated by reflected sound of walls and other surfaces, then retro-fitting local acoustic absorbent panels can be a very simple and effective way to reduce noise levels by 5dB − 10dB − or even more.
The panels can also be installed on low ceilings and, in some circumstances, inside existing machine guards.
HiFi

HiFi

By their very nature, SDS damping products are very effective at reducing unwanted vibration in HiFi sound systems to enhance the listening experience. This is, if you like, a “refined” area of applications for the technology compared with industrial projects − but the principles are the same.
Sound Damped Steel HiFi products are sold under the Soundeck brand on the Soundeck website.

Heat Pump Noise Reduction

The conventional approach to heat pump noise control is to assume that the noise can only be controlled by fitting large silencers, acoustic enclosures and barrier. Whilst there are innovative technologies that can be used to cut the low frequency noise from heat pump fans (silencers are not effective for hums), in many installations vibration from fans, pumps and compressors is a significant contributor to the overall noise.

For these applications, high performance sound damped steel provides a simple, rugged and cost effective solution.

Industrial

Industrial

Our materials have been phenomenally effective across a wide range of industries, reducing noise levels at source by 10dB − 20dB across many applications. In some cases, it has only taken a matter of minutes to retro-fit the solution; Wednesday before lunch: noisy; after lunch: quiet…
Our products are rugged, low cost and are also ideal for high hygiene industries such as food and drink, pharmaceuticals and electronics.
Architectural

Architectural

Laminated metal panels can provide architects with some interesting and innovative options across a range of design projects. These can be both visual, for example having copper and stainless steel on opposite sides of a single panel, and performance effects − reducing the noise from rain on metal surfaces.
HVAC

HVAC

Conventionally, it is assumed that the noise from HVAC, air conditioning, chiller and cooling tower plant can only be controlled by fitting large silencers and enclosures. Whilst there are new technologies that can be used instead of silencers (see below), in many cases the vibration from fans and compressors can be a significant contributor to the overall noise. Where this is the case, sound damped steel and other laminates provide a very simple, rugged and cost effective solution.
Transport

Transport

A key issue in the control of noise inside vehicles is how to prevent or reduce the transmission or re-radiation of vibration as sound. In addition, both weight and space are at a premium. Enter sound damped metal sheet and retro-damp adhesive dampers. Weight for weight they are an order of magnitude more effective than conventional unconstrained layer damping treatments, are more rugged and can be designed-in to the components − even complex formed components and using the same tooling.
Consumer OEM

Consumer OEM

Noise and vibration in consumer products are closely linked to perceptions of quality. Lower noise and vibration = higher quality and greater desirability. Incorporating damped materials and components can often be a simple and very low cost route to quieter products.
Oil & Gas

Oil & Gas

Whether the noise problem is occupational or environmental, whether it is caused by pipeline radiated noise or by compressors, pumps etc, SDS highly damped materials are a very effective and practical control options. They can be incorporated both into conventional noise control measures such as enclosures and acoustic lagging to make them more effective or used as direct replacements for existing components such as supports and panels. The potential for fatigue is also reduced.
Laminated Metal Damping

Laminated Metal Damping

Noise from mechanical sources is generated by vibration from plant elements and components that is then radiated as sound. Damping materials dissipate vibration energy, reducing the level of vibration and hence the radiated noise. They also reduce fatigue which cuts maintenance costs significantly and are very widely applicable.
No all damping materials are equal. Conventional damping material that is added to surfaces is not durable and has a limited performance. Sound damped sheet materials on the other hand are rugged, hygienic and have an order of magnitude higher performance.
