Global EMC Testing

Global EMC Testing

With a growing customer demand to be able to certify beyond the EU border, Eurofins Hursley has been gaining approvals for the Far East in recent years. We are now proceeding with certification requirements and processes for Russia and the other bordering states. We have a vast knowledge of foreign approvals.
Whereas many EMC labs only carry out foreign approvals on rare occasions, at Eurofins Hursley we are undertaking such testing and certification on a weekly basis with additional strong connections throughout Western Europe, North America and Australia. Fast and simple routes have been established to expedite compliance through the Far East, South America and Eastern Europe. As a result of our regular contact with these agencies, we have the necessary expertise to be able to advise clients and get the often complex and ambiguous test requirements right first time.
IT & Telecoms

IT & Telecoms

Originally formed as a management buyout from IBM, Eurofins Hursley Services has been involved in EMC for IT equipment and Telecoms for over 20 years. We are familiar with all worldwide requirements and have been involved in developing and introducing the latest standards.
We have extensive experience with all the major IT companies and can confidently progress global approvals as part of our managed services. With our long history with EMC for IT we are regularly performing testing for FCC, BSMI, MSIP, KCC, VCCI, C-Tick, SABS & SANS approvals.
We are able to test up to 40GHz under UKAS accreditation for FCC approvals for Part 15 Digital Devices. With Telecom specifications having so many similarities to IT, we can ensure a good understanding of your products' requirements when testing with us.
Industrial EMC Testing

Industrial EMC Testing

Eurofins Hursley Services is accredited to both of the new light and heavy industrial standards;
Heavy Industrial
EN61000-6-2 & EN61000-6-4
Light Industrial
EN61000-6-1 & EN61000-6-3
We have the capability to test beyond heavy industrial limits to thereby ensure our customers' confidence with their products' capabilities.
Where equipment is physically too large to bring on site we have a fully equipped mobile test unit, and can carry out testing necessary to certify a large fixed installation.
This can be particularly useful for one-off development products
We can supply up to 60Amps per phase for 110V, 240V or 220V and 415V 3-phase power and can accommodate equipment up to 6 metres in length and five tonnes in weight.
Domestic EMC Testing

Domestic EMC Testing

Domestic equipment is generally defined as household electrical appliances, electric tools, regulating controls using semi-conductors, motor-driven electro-mechanical devices and electric toys. We have tested most domestic products from hair driers to tumble driers.
Domestic equipment is currently covered by EN55014-1 emissions and EN55014-2 immunity EMC standards.
Some simple products will only require emissions testing as they will comply with the immunity requirements by virtue of their non-electronic design.
Many parts of the testing process have been automated to assure customers a fast turn around and cost-effective testing. We have a water supply plumbed into our chamber at Chandlers Ford for equipment requiring mains pressure.
We are regularly testing domestic products for worldwide certification and can advise on specific country requirements.
Medical EMC Testing

Medical EMC Testing

The requirements for EMC testing of medical devices are considerably more stringent than other standards. Test levels are higher and frequency ranges wider.
If any product is being exported to the USA then the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will require a report to EN60601 for Form '510 (k)'.
We are UKAS accredited to the new 2014 edition of EN60601-1-2 with its new radiated immunity requirements.
Rail EMC

Rail EMC

We are accredited to the following common standards;
EN50121-xx series 2015 edition

In addition we are recognised by the London Underground (LUL) for approved work with their standards LUL E1027, 1-222, M1027 and G-222.
Our experience covers rolling stock , power systems and trackside systems including power distribution and signalling.
We have worked with passenger-on-board audio visual systems. Our extensive knowledge covers physical testing and consultancy work on new designs and fault-finding with rolling stock.
Some recent projects include the high speed link from London to Dover and the new East Coast Line, and Cooling the Tube.
Low Power Radio

Low Power Radio

Low Power Radio and Short Range Devices operate over short distances and use low power levels. Typical products include remote controls, RFID devices and wireless microphones.
We test to the following standards
Europe
EN 300-220
EN 300-330
EN 300-440
USA
CFR 47
Subpart 15C
Canada
RSS 210
Home & Professional AV EMC

Home & Professional AV EMC

Eurofins Hursley Services is fully accredited to test all Audio Visual (AV) products. AV products are sub-classified into professional and home categories.
Professional AV
Professional AV is covered by EN55032 or EN55103-1 & EN55103-2. Products are classified into different categories depending on working environment. These are E1, E2, E3 (Class B), E4 & E5 (Class A).
Immunity requirements change with categories also.
There are some unique magnetic requirements for low frequency emissions and immunity. We are one of the few UK test labs certified to perform these tests.
Home AV
Home AV is covered by EN55032 or EN55013 & EN55020, and relates to all items used in the home and office and includes; radios, amplifiers, TV, DVB and set top boxes.
With the growing number of home AV devices now on the market utilising a microprocessor controller the boundaries of home AV to IT are becoming blurred with most products now containing a PC based controller of some sort.
The new CISPR32 and CISPR35 will address these issues with environment specific areas. CISPR32 and EN55032 are now listed in the Official Journal and we have UKAS accreditation for both. We would recommend using EN55032 for future testing.
Maritime EMC

Maritime EMC

The Maritime Directive is defined by EN60945. This standard covers many of the generic tests, but adds specific EMC requirements for magnetic emissions and low frequency conducted emissions.
The VHF band has limits considerably lower than CISPR Class B.
Immunity requirements change with categories also.
Most EMC standards allow the limits to be met without including the measurement uncertainty, but EN60945 is unique in that the limits can only be met when the measured emission or immunity result is less than the limit including the uncertainty value.
Lighting, Dimmers & Controllers

Lighting, Dimmers & Controllers

We are able to test all lighting products.
EN55015 covers EMC emission testing and EN61547 covers EMC immunity testing. Immunity requirements change with categories also.
Several of the lighting controller standards also specify these standards within their overall product requirements.
Lighting controls vary from simple rotary dimmers to complex digitally controlled dimmer packs.
The most common standard is EN60669. The design of the product will control which tests are applied but usually a minimum will be EN55015, EN61000-4-4 & EN61000-4-5.
With the advent of low cost microprocessor boards a wider range of electronic household/building controllers are appearing which have their own EMC standard, EN50428, to cover emissions and immunity.
Military EMC Testing

Military EMC Testing

Military EMC is environment specific and we have expanded our capability over several years and are now able to offer services for Land, Sea and Air sectors. We are part of the EMCTLA working group A and have contributed to the UK DEFSTAN 59-411 standard. With our new facilities established we will be able to offer a wider range of services and increased power levels.
RF Site Surveys

RF Site Surveys

There is an increased focus in the media on radiation levels from various portable devices with potential health risks. EMF and RF surveys are now part of most pre-design and pre-construction phases for all building projects. Here at Eurofins Hursley we are able to work on-site before and during construction, or upon completion and assess the RF levels and relate these to human exposure limits.
Eurofins E&E Hursley Limited has extensive experience of working with large and small projects running over days or, as with the recent Heathrow Terminal 5 project, several years. We can carry out RF surveys covering a typical frequency range from DC to 70GHz.
We have undertaken surveys for the Docklands Light Railway project, the new East Coast Line and the new High Speed Rail Link. Our site survey team accurately measure signal levels and interference sources and then generates a comprehensive signal model of the area surveyed.
As well as RF surveys, we also offer EMF surveys for offices and work-places for compliance to the new Human Exposure Directive EN62311 and the EMF standards EN50366 and EN62233.Employers have a duty-of-care to ensure staff environments conform to EU limits for a safe working environment.
