DIP Switches consist of a series of small manual electronic switches in a ‘dual in-line package’ or DIP. So, the term Dip Switch may refer to each individual switch, or to the entire unit. Their role is to control the flow of electricity around a PCB, to change the operating mode of the device. There are many different types of DIP switches, including: Piano type, IC type, Right Angle type, Slide type and SMD type.

Typically, DIP switches are tiny toggle (on/off) switches arranged in a row and mounted sequentially on a block. A standard DIP switch can include 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 10 or 16+ switches.

The main benefit of these switches is that they are simple to use and a cheaper alternative to software control panels and jumper blocks. Some applications for them include PC hardware, door mechanisms, remote controls and large-scale lighting controls.

Panel Mount Switches

PCB Mount Switches
A PCB switch is mounted directly onto a printed circuit board (PCB). Surface mount PCB switches (SMD/SMT) sit flat on the top of the PCB, while through-hole (or ‘thru-hole’) switches are inserted into drilled holes and soldered to pads on the opposite side. Our PCB mount switches are designed for reliable performance and long-lasting durability, making them an ideal choice for PCB-based projects. We offer a wide variety of PCB mount switches, including potentiometers, dip switches, slide switches, rocker switches, pushbutton switches, tactile LED switches, and non-illuminated tact switches, along with other components such as encoders, knobs, relays, and toggle switches to meet your specific requirements.
