Particle Counters & Detectors

Particle Counters & Detectors

Our family of particle counters and particle detectors contain instruments optimized for a variety of applications.

In environmental research and monitoring, customers face high concentrations in city centers, near freeways or harbors, or very low concentrations in remote locations which are used as reference sampling points.

In the laboratory, particle counters are often combined with particle sizers to measure size distributions.

Workplaces, hospitals, schools, residential homes and other sensitive environments prefer water-based Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) to ensure the occupants’ safety and health.

Combustion aerosol has its own challenges, such as sampling the aerosol without changing it, or following regulatory directives for engine exhaust.
For the purpose of calibration, reference counting is typically performed with an Aerosol Electrometer.

Whatever your challenge is, TSI offers a solution. Let us help you to find yours.

You can find some of our product pages at the links below!
Abbreviated Impactor Measurement (AIM) Equipment

Abbreviated Impactor Measurement (AIM) Equipment

The Abbreviated Impactor Measurement (AIM) Method implies using a shorter process to characterize aerodynamic size. It has been promoted as an alternative to the labor-intensive full resolution cascade impactor methodology for APSD (aerodynamic particle size distribution) testing.

Using an AIM methodology for early stage development has become increasingly popular as both OINDP device and drug companies look for ways to shorten drug development. This technology has traditionally been limited to early development signals indicating rough drug particle size, and this equipment is still intended to categorize the entire dosage for effective mass balance exercises.
Aerosol-Neutralizers

Aerosol-Neutralizers

Aerosol neutralizers are an essential piece of many aerosol research studies because aerosol particles dispersed by nebulization, combustion, or powder dispersion are usually electrostatically charged.

Normally, a high level of electrical charge is undesirable because it increases the particle loss to the walls of transport and sampling systems, or it can affect filter-efficiency measurements.

To ensure that instruments operating on the electrical mobility principle work properly, aerosol particles entering these instruments require an aerosol neutralizer to impart a predictable charge distribution to the aerosol particles.

Neutralizers can be separated into two categories based on how they charge the particles. One group is the radioactive neutralizers, which use the emission of alpha (positive) or beta (negative) particles from decaying radioactive elements to impart charge to the particles. The other group is the non-radioactive neutralizers, which use electricity to generate x-rays or produce high voltages that can charge the particles directly.
Cascade Impactors

Cascade Impactors

TSI’s suite of cascade impactors can collect particles with aerodynamic diameters (cutpoints) from 10 nm to 10 µm, in 3 to 13 different size fractions, and at flow rates of 2, 10, 30 or 100 L/min. The number of stages determines the size resolution of the collected samples, and consequently determines the level of detail of the data generated from the quantitative analysis of these collected samples. MOUDI II impactors have rotating stages. When the stage is rotated relative to the nozzle plate, the impacted particles are deposited in a more uniform manner across the impaction surface. This increases the amount of particle mass that can be collected, reduces the probability of particle bounce and re-entrainment, and optimizes quantitative analysis of the collected samples.

Liquid Flow Controller

Liquid Flow Controller

Built upon field proven technology, the Turbo™ Liquid Flow Controller (LFC) 2950 was engineered to pair with MSP Turbo II™ Vaporizers to provide a reliable, high-performance liquid vapor delivery solution for semiconductor thin film deposition processes (including CVD, PECVD, ALD, and MOCVD). The diagram below shows how the LFC fits into the liquid vaporization system MSP offers.
The MSP Turbo™ Liquid Flow Controller provides ultra-fast response time − able to reach ±1% of set point within 300 ms, saving time and money by increasing throughput and reducing waste. Our new LFC also offers best-in-class accuracy, repeatability, and stability − delivering the high precision performance needed for 300 mm microelectronic processes. High accuracy, excellent repeatability and exception stability can reduce chamber/tool variation, allowing more tightly controlled processes leading to better yield.
Generic Drug Development Equipment

Generic Drug Development Equipment

The USP and FDA provide blueprints for many methods and monographs to assist in accelerating regulatory acceptance.

To name just a few, there are well known and accepted generics for albuterol, fluticasone propionate, Salmeterol, or combinations. Another recent generic draft guidance from the FDA is Beclomethasone Dipropionate, utilizing an IVIVC approach.

There are also unique testing aspects to OINDPs that are outside of the focus of APSD and DDU tests. MSP, a Division of TSI, carries a full equipment set to perform dissolution testing, gravimetric testing, spray force testing, and testing the “cold Freon” effect. These types of products are also featured in the Copley Catalog.
Heat Stress Monitors

Heat Stress Monitors

Heat stress management is often viewed as time-consuming and complex. Simplify your heat stress management with TSI’s intuitive QUESTemp° Series Heat Stress Monitors.

QUESTemp° Heat Stress Monitors are designed to quickly and accurately evaluate potential heat stress environments. These instruments deliver high-performance monitoring using Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) sensing technology, the standard for heat stress management, and the calculation of a WBGT Index value.

Our monitors allow you to eliminate daily maintenance. Convenient stay time parameters per multiple standards help determine work-rest ratios, and IP 54 ingress rating helps protect units from exposure to dirt, dust, oil and water.

Our monitors are designed to withstand the rigors of everyday use in demanding environments, providing reliable monitoring throughout the life of the product.
In Vitro − In Vivo correlation IVIVC Equipment

In Vitro − In Vivo correlation IVIVC Equipment

In Vitro − In Vivo Correlation (IVIVC), as defined by the FDA, is a predictive mathematical model describing the relationship between the in vitro property of a dosage form and relevant in vivo response. The FDA has provided little to no guidance on IVIVC practices, but there is growing interest including an FDA draft guidance using IVIVC methods for a generic drug development.

A basic system is comprised of two more-realistic elements to give a more accurate representation of how a drug may behave in a specific type of patient’s respiratory system: the first is a more anatomically representative mouth and throat feature, and the second is a more representative breathing pattern.
Inhaler Testing Automation & Lab Organization

Inhaler Testing Automation & Lab Organization

With automation equipment performing repetitive, time-consuming tasks, well-educated scientists and analysts can focus on completing higher-level, value-added work.

Along with freeing up analyst/scientist’s time, automated inhaler testing equipment in the lab provides additional benefits. Some of these benefits include:

Consistency: mechanical processing is always more consistent
Repeatability: automation eliminates large uncontrollable variables for more reliable results
Method transfer: easily prove effective method transfer from lab to lab, site to site, CRO to manufacturing, and analyst to analyst
Clarity: improves troubleshooting with less input variables into method and therefore analysis clarity
Cost: decreases long term cost of errors and troubleshooting
Laboratory Monitors & Controls

Laboratory Monitors & Controls

Ventilation demands, driven by fume hood exhaust flows and air change rates, means laboratories can use six times the energy of a similarly-sized office building. Operating one fume hood uses as much energy over the course of a year as three homes!
