WPS Clears the Way for Snow Centre
10 December 2008
The SnowDome snow centre in Tamworth, Staffordshire, with a 170-metre slope covered in real snow all year round, attracts a high volume of visitors but getting to it, can be very difficult.
Located close to the town centre and with the access road straight off a busy dual carriageway, the centre needed to solve two key problems: The first was to stop visitors to the town using the centre’s car park; and the second was to ensure that site entry and exit for cars, coaches and delivery vehicles was fast enough to prevent any hold-ups on the dual carriageway
WPS’s innovative solution was to install a purpose-designed dual height control barrier at the car park entrance. The special barrier means that regardless of the vehicle’s height, all drivers can activate the barrier from their window, using the controls situated at their eye level. And with the car park now fully controlled, non-centre visitors are prevented from gaining access leaving all the spaces free for paying customers. The system is also future proof, and with plans underway for a hotel and restaurant on The SnowDome site, the dual height barrier will accommodate any additions to the car park’s use.
