UV cured Conformal Coating at CT Production
16 February 2009
CT Production offers an automatic conformal coating service using an approved material, which is cost effective and environmentally friendly.
It has been used very successfully on two medium volume products, one for the petro-chemical industry and another for low-energy high-output lighting.
These are buy to build projects, which, apart from SMT PCB assembly and conventional PCB assembly, require tightly specified conformal coating. This service was previously carried out by in a manually operated spray booth. The automated process removed the need for pre-spray masking and post-spray touch-in, because the machine applies the coating accurately where it is needed.
The coating previously specified by our customers was solvent based, requiring baking and venting and great care due to flammability. We recommended a change to UV curable coating, which is passed through a microwave UV lamp system for instant curing. The additional investment in a UV pass-through oven was justified by improved results and quicker process time.
The machine can coat over or around simple or complex shapes and offers repeatability and lower costs than manual methods.
