Special School furniture installation approved by Head Teacher

25 March 2009

David Bailey Furniture Systems has recently been contracted to supply and fit Goldwyn Community Special School in Ashford, Kent, with educational furniture.

David Bailey Furniture System’s Education range of fitted furniture came highly recommended by building contractors, Durntells for its strong and sturdy worktops and storage units.

Bob Law, Head Teacher of Goldwyn Community Special School, commented: “Our main priority in sourcing a supplier was that the furniture must be robust to withstand heavy handling from pupils. David Bailey Furniture Systems invited me to their premises in Broadstairs, Kent, where I was given a presentation and tour of the factory. I was very impressed with the set-up and slickness of the operation and seeing the quality of the fitted units, reassured me that David Bailey Furniture Systems would do a good job.”

Fitted furniture to the value of £82,000 was installed in the classrooms, offices and specialist teaching areas, including science rooms, teaching kitchens, design and technology rooms and recording studios.

Bob Law, continued: “Now that our school refurbishment project is complete, I am delighted with our new fitted furniture. The furniture looks good but more importantly the units and fittings have proven hard-wearing, happily withstanding the frequent kicking and slamming from pupils.”

Goldwyn Community Special School is one of over 1,000 maintained special schools in the UK that makes special educational provision for pupils with statements of special educational needs (SEN) whose needs cannot be fully met within mainstream provision.

The school teaches all National Curriculum subjects, with certain subjects modified to suit the learning requirements of pupils.

Alongside the school’s curriculum, pastoral care is treated with equal importance.  Pastoral care units address the emotional, social, behavioural and physical needs of pupils by helping students acquire the skills to manage communication and remove learning barriers. All staff work together to create a learning environment, where pupils are encouraged to develop their individual skills and talents.

To complete this special school refurbishment project, David Bailey worked with Cattell Skinner Design Partnership and building contractor, Durtnells.
