Spartak Moscow use TigerTurf for 10th title bid
23 April 2009
The FIFA 2-star accredited synthetic pitch has been installed at Russias' prestigious clubs' home ground.
Spartak players will soon return from training camp in Spain to begin preparations for the launch of their league campaign on TigerTurfs' Soccer Champion surface – designed to specifically mirror the playing conditions of the professional game. The surface is TigerTurfs' highest-profile Russian installation and Spartak now has two pitches tested to FIFA 2-star recommended levels at their main training headquarters to help them prepare for the start of the season in March.
Steve Hewitt, TigerTurf sales and marketing director, said: “We are delighted that a club of such pedigree within the European game has chosen TigerTurf. Everyone at Spartak has been very impressed with the surface and they are planning some intensive work on it in a bid to regain their place at the top of the Russian game and we are only too pleased to help.”
Spartak, founded in 1922, is the only Russian team that has reached the semi-finals of all UEFA main club tournaments. Last season was a disappointment, finishing only 8th in the Russian Premier League and being knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Tottenham in the last 32. Now they have turned to TigerTurf, so that when winter starts to bite at the back end of the new season, they will be able to train unhindered in freezing temperatures as they bid to regain their place at the head of the Russian game, ahead of local rivals CSKA, Dinamo and Lokomotiv.
As one of Europes' FIFA licensees and the UKs' only FIFA approved manufacturer, TigerTurf is committed to the quality concept being implemented through the EMEA territory. The synthetic turf is so impressive that FIFA final round competitions and top UEFA competitions have included the FIFA recommended 2-star facilities in their respective competition regulations.
