Spotless Classrooms & The Benefits
09 December 2019
Imagine sending children into a classroom environment filled with dirt, grime and dust.
What are the effects likely to be? Distracted behaviour, sluggish learning and an interruption to better standards of clean living? Let’s investigate some of the benefits attached to clean classrooms.Subconscious Learning
Whilst children learn many academic skills in the classroom they also adopt proficiency in life skills. When greeted each and every day with a smile and ‘good morning’, such behaviour is likely to be adopted and taken throughout life whilst being subconsciously denoted as ‘socially acceptable’. The school environment is a safe and secure space for learning and thriving. Regrettably, some children come from homes littered with disorganisation and inadequate living standards. Such circumstances contribute to the subconscious learning of acceptable habits. Young people entering neat, tidy and clean classrooms on a daily basis are more likely to latch onto these skills whilst seeing them more as ‘the norm’. The idea suggests that cleanliness becomes an ingrained aspect of a child's personality.
Coughs, Colds & Infections
High traffic areas are prone to a myriad of bacteria just waiting to latch on to their next unsuspecting victim and schools are renowned for this. Not only should classrooms be kept clean on a daily basis, deep cleans on a regular basis are imperative. Recently, in the North East of England, a school was forced to close its doors in order to undergo a deep clean. Norovirus struck with many young children and teachers affected. Could a scheduled deep clean possibly have prevented this from occurring? Regular, effective cleaning results in healthier children which in turn means less absences. The more regularly children attend school, the better their educational experience is likely to be.
Lower Teacher Turnover
If teachers are being faced with dirty classrooms on a daily basis they may be forced to rectify the issue themselves. Whilst clearing away after themselves and teaching children to do the same is expected, cleaning is beyond the realms of a teachers contract. Similarly to young people a teacher is more likely to thrive in a fresh, clean space and less likely to seek employment elsewhere.
All-Round Good Experience
A child's life is usually full to the brim with learning, family, friends, playing and more. A clean space provides them with a serene environment to undergo an enjoyable learning experience from which we hope they thrive. Who wouldn’t want that for children?
