Fans for Power Electronics Cooling
28 June 2022
Selecting the correct fan for electronic cooling systems or data centres within the telecommunication sector.
Compact axial fans remain the popular choice for electronic cooling systems or data centres within the telecommunication sector. Electronics cooling is becoming increasingly challenging within this area with huge reliance on constant, energy saving and efficient operations. Fans providing sufficient air performance for electronic cooling in confined spaces whilst complying with noise specifications are a crucial part of an effective and well-designed data centre cooling processes.
Electronic enclosures require compact, space saving fans such as our axial compact range of fans. AC, EC, DC and ATEX versions are available depending on the individual specification of the project. Available in all voltages and sizes, our electronics cooling fans provide efficient, high power, low noise and space saving options. These cooling fans for electronics dissipate any heat generated by electronic components inside the enclosure to ensure a constant temperature-maintained environment, preventing the premature failure of expensive drives, sensors, and other high priority equipment. Compact axial fans are easy to install and supply a varying air flow rate. Spot cooling fans such as these box fans are key to prolonging the lifetime expectancy of electronics and ensuring proper functionality inside enclosures. Where the air intake is Insufficient the increasing temperature of the electronic components will cause the enclosure to overheat and potentially cause hot spots, reduce the lifetime of the electronics or at worst result in malfunctions or costly damages.
To prevent the build-up of dust an inlet filter can be attached to the cooling fan that is pulling the air into the enclosure or cabinet. It is important to change the filters occasionally as clogged up filters can restrict the airflow and overall cooling efficiency of the enclosure.
Selecting the correct fan for an enclosure ensures space is utilised efficiently and accurate cooling requirements are met. Determining the amount of heat generated in the enclosure and the temperature limit dictates the air flow volume required. High volume forced air flow is extremely effective in electronic cooling. When installing the fan, it is important to consider leaving sufficient space for the air flow to move freely without impeding the flow of air. This is becoming increasingly difficult as manufacturers choose smaller enclosures and pack them much more densely to save both space and money. Lack of space in the design could compromise the rate of cooling or the electronics in the system.
