Have you been affected by the recent Strikes?

19 January 2023

Driver training schools and their pupils have regretfully had some driving test appointments cancelled at the last minute because of DVSA Driving Examiners industrial action.

Fortunately, Vocational Examiners who conduct the LGV Driving Tests are very aware of the difficulties faced by drivers and employers and they don't necessarily follow through with strike action on the dates that the DVSA publish when the anticipate that problems might occur.

Everyone knows there is STILL a HGV driver shortage.  Individuals and Companies have been working hard over the past few weeks and months to go through the multiple stages of getting Provisional Entitlement and passing the 3 LGV theory tests in order to get to the point when the driver is ready to take the actual Large Goods Vehicle Driving Test.  So, examiners and the DVSA don't take the decision to cancell any truck driving tests lightly.

Fortunately, if there is a last minute change of plan, the DVSA may offer the candidate the opportunity to claim expenses for a driving test that has been cancelled at short notice i.e. less than 3 clear working days.  There is a claim form on the GOV.UK website that can be downloaded bad submitted to them if there is such an eventuality.  And the DVSA test fee is automatically moved on (or refunded) so another resit appointment can be arranged at the first opportunity.

Naturally, we all hope the grievances of the examiners and all other striking workers are resolved as quickly and as amicably as possible together with their employers and the Government, hopefully to everyone's satisfaction.  And that we can all return to normal working arrangements as soon as possible.

Wallace School of Transport will continue to do our best to help our customers during this turbulent time.
