Solvent recovery facility

06 September 2023

Deltabarn is presently working on a new solvent recovery facility, with four fractional distillation columns that separate a range of waste solvents into pure streams which can either be returned to the customer or sold on the open market.

In addition to the distillation columns, a thin film evaporator (TFE) is used to recover solvents with high solids content. The current plant can process around 30,000 tonnes per annum via the distillation columns and an additional 10,000 tonnes per annum via the TFE. A range of different industries are serviced by Garston including pharmaceuticals, fine and agricultural chemicals, oil and gas, paints and coatings and the automotive industry, with recovered solvent going on to be used in a wide variety of different products.

One of Garston’s most significant customers is building a new manufacturing/fabrication facility to expand their operations at their site in Ireland. The Pipe and mechanical engineering component of  this new facility is being project managed by Deltabarn and will lead to a significant increase in the volumes of waste solvent they produce, and the existing assets at Garston do not have the capacity to meet this increase in demand. As a result, our client are expanding its current operations at the Garston solvent recovery facility. The project scope is to design, install and commission new distillation columns as well as all necessary supporting infrastructure including 17 new storage tanks. Currently, the project is in the construction phase and civil works are being carried out on the site. As design Project Engineering consultant Deltabarn is in the centre of this operation and dealing with suppliers, designers, construction contractors etc. providing the vital knowledge and insight that are guiding the project to completion.
