Grenville Engineering Sponsors Woodhouse Academy’s Dynamic STEM Project

Grenville Engineering, a leader in metal fabrication and metalworking, proudly sponsors Woodhouse Academy’s latest STEM initiative, the “Race to the Line Bio” challenge. This popular and inclusive cross-curricula STEM activity engages Year 7 students in an exciting project where they design, build, and race model rocket cars.

The Race to the Line Bio challenge is a comprehensive STEM project integrating classroom learning with hands-on applications. Students work in small teams to apply Newton’s Laws of Motion, use CAD/CAM for design, and employ 3-D printing or laser cutting for manufacturing. Additionally, they develop computer coding skills to create a timing system and gain practical experience in various tool skills during the build process. This project strengthens their understanding of physics and engineering and encourages social learning and essential life skills.

On 3rd July, two dedicated students from Woodhouse Academy competed in the regional finals at Stretford High School, achieving an impressive second place. The event was a valuable experience for the students, allowing them to interact with peers from other schools and apply their skills in a real-world context.

Grenville Engineering’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to fostering education and innovation within the local community. Helen from Grenville Engineering expressed her pride in supporting Woodhouse Academy, stating, “We are thrilled to support such a dynamic and educational project. Watching these young students bring their ideas to life and succeed is incredibly rewarding.” The collaboration between industry and education aims to cultivate a passion for STEM among students and prepare them for future challenges.
