Rittal launch RiZone IT management software

20 January 2010

Together with Microsofts' System Centre Operations Manager, (SCOM), RiZone represents the first commercial software to allow the power consumption monitoring of all devices.

Rittal RiZone monitors and controls the cooling from chillers, computer room air-conditioning, (CRAC), systems, liquid cooling packages, free cooling and power supplies, such as UPS, power distribution, along with energy use and other physical parameters, such as temperature and access or security of a data centre.

Microsofts' SCOM monitors the performance of the server and provides an event display and event evaluations. Through this collaboration Rittal has created an essential management pack that facilitates the sharing of data between IT infrastructure and servers.

RiZone and SCOM, through integrated communication, enables the physical services to be automatically scaled up and down depending on the IT demand, with no impact on resilience or downtime. If demand within the application layer is higher, the software interacts with the physical layer to provide what is needed, such as more power or more cooling. Conversely, if IT demand is low, the physical layer can effectively hibernate which can significantly reduce valuable power consumption. An added benefit is a holistic view of the overall network infrastructure is provided via the SCOM intuitive graphical user interface.
