Climate Control role for Heatmiser as IMI prepares for rise in demand

16 December 2024

Advanced heating control manufacturer Heatmiser has been given a key role in the Climate Control sector of IMI, following the £110m acquisition of the Blackburn-based business in 2022.

As its European-based parent company IMI incorporates Heatmiser as part of a group of companies dedicated to building climate control technology, the business has been able to invest in new appointments, improvements to manufacturing facilities and the introduction of new product lines.

In October 2024 parent company IMI Hydronic Engineering rebranded to IMI as part of a wider strategic shift to a sector-based organisation, to better serve its customers across Europe. Heatmiser is part of five heritage brands with more than 150 years of expertise focused on indoor climate control, dedicated to finding innovative sustainable solutions for energy efficient home heating and cooling systems.

Developments at Heatmiser during 2024 includes a series of new hires for the business and investment in the manufacturing centre in Blackburn with the aim of improving on existing manufacturing processes and capabilities, ready for future requirements being driven by the market in the UK and Europe.

In addition, there has been significant investment and strengthening of Heatmiser’s product Research and Development capacity, as well as improvement to its logistics operation. The investment is part of IMI’s plan to maintain the industry leading position of Heatmiser, while increasing its capacity to supply products to the European market.

There are more than 1.5 million smart-enabled Heatmiser devices in UK homes today, with an estimated 600,000 homes already enjoying the benefits of heating control apps. Heatmiser currently supplies one of the highest-rated apps available on Apple and Android devices – Heatmiser neoApp.

In November Heatmiser will add to its range of available packages with the introduction of the neoStat Touch and the neoStat Pro ‘smart thermostats’, which are both manageable via the Heatmiser neoApp  and compatible with voice command devices including Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit.

Marc Robertson, managing director at IMI Heatmiser:

“Heatmiser has consistently set the standard for innovative home heating - it was one of the reasons the IMI group purchased the company in 2022. Since then, we have been working to further align our business, its products and technology with the wider IMI group.

“Heatmiser, which adds more than 50 years of thermostat control knowledge to IMI’s global offer, is now operating with a group of businesses that brings homeowners an increasing range of world-leading climate control systems. This further strengthens the range and quality of product options we can bring to the UK market and our customers at a time when the UK home heating market is becoming more sophisticated, including the introduction of cooling technologies, leveraging heat pump cooling functionality to underfloor systems.”

The companies operating under the IMI Climate Control umbrella include Heatmiser, IMI Pneumatex, IMI Heimeier, IMI TA, and IMI Flow Design.

Heatmiser was established in 1968 by Gordon Kay and has become one of the UK’s leading smart thermostat manufacturers with established partnerships with heating installers and heating equipment manufactures across the UK.

The company’s success is based on its portfolio of high-quality products, strong customer relationships, digitalised commercial model and great technical support for their customers enabling homeowners to accurately control heating and cooling in each room remotely.
