Natratex complements Palm house at Kew
18 September 2007
Bituchem Asphalt Ltd’s Natratex surfacing has been selected for the pathways surrounding the Palm House at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Designers at Kew had specific criteria for the project. Due to the high number of visitors, the surfacing had to be durable and long lasting. Another important consideration was to create footpaths that complemented the natural surroundings of this prestigious World Heritage Site.
Commenting on the project, Ian Marshall of sub contractors Marshall Surfacing said, “Having worked with Bituchem on a number of projects we have always been very impressed. We understood that a project of such prestige would need an attractive yet hardwearing solution. Natratex fitted the bill perfectly, and is also more economical than other products.”
Natratex is a hard landscaping solution that uses a specially formulated clear binder to form a fully bonded natural aggregate wearing course that is long lasting and low maintenance. This creates a robust surface that can withstand both foot and vehicle trafficking yet has the soft appearance of natural stone.
Natratex is a hot applied process with a similar manufacture and application method to that of traditional macadams. Unlike other landscaping solutions, Natratex can be applied in nearly all weather conditions and so does not delay contractors working to deadlines.
In total, Marshall Surfacing laid 500m² of Natratex at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and are delighted with the end result. Ian Marshall added, “Natratex was quick and easy to lay. In terms of aesthetics the pathways look fantastic, and above all they will retain their good looks for many years to come.”
