SDS WINS STORMWATER MANAGEMENT OF M25

Surface water and stormwater management has become a pre-requisite for most construction projects and on the back of its expertise in this area, SDS Ltd has recently won a £6 million contract to provide bespoke attenuation tanks on the M25 widening scheme.
Main contracting joint venture Skanska Balfour Beatty(SBBJV) worked closely with SDS which came up with innovative concepts for dealing with the problems of surface water and stormwater and won the project based on the final design solution. Mick Jennings of Skanska Balfour Beatty commented, “ We were hooked on the SDS concept from the outset and our designers worked with the SDS team to arrive at the final stage.” He continued, “We have been delighted with our working relationship with SDS which has provided technical solutions well ahead of any competitors. SDS had the complete service offering including economics, quality and cost compromise.” Patrick Cullen, managing director of SDS explained, “Our solution to provide bespoke attenuation tanks for different sections of the M25 vastly reduced the civil engineering cost of the overall project.” He added, “Our ability to react to client need is rare in our industry, and equally our investment in manufacture and R & D ultimately benefits the end user with better cost efficient sustainable solutions.” This value engineering approach by SDS is how the company has grown to annual sales of £12 million in just seven years, with 2009 results being 30% up on the previous year. The growth is also due to its complete involvement on projects from design and manufacture to installation and maintenance. As a result of the M25 work, SDS is now working on other major infrastructure projects across the UK. SDS has also worked on a string of largescale construction projects throughout the UK and Europe. It is also working on a number of ‘building schools for the future’ projects including 9 schools for Aberdeen and 13 for Knowlsey, Liverpool where SDS involvement has brought a value engineered solution to these projects. SDS has high environmental credentials. Its GEOlight stormwater attenuation tanks are manufactured in the UK entirely from post-consumer PVC waste, normally destined for landfill. This reduces the carbon footprint and helps development projects achieve a higher BREEAM rating (a building environmental assessment). SDS has invested in a further expansion plan for 2010 with a new wastewater and industrial cooling tower division.
