A more sustainable approach to surface water management is part of the Flood and Water Management Bill currently in consultation for introduction in 2011. ustainable drainage systems mimic natural drainage close to source where normal and extreme levels of rainfall can be better managed, so reducing the volume of water flowing into sewers and watercourses. s the only UK provider of surface water solutions to offer a complete solution from design, consultancy and manufacturing through to installation and maintenance, SDS is well placed to provide industry expertise to representatives of key stakeholders such as local authorities, water companies and private developers regarding the implications of the imminent Floods Bill. SDS is also currently working with water companies under the latest Asset Management Programme (AMP5). Patrick Cullen, Managing Director of SDS explains;  Our ability to provide bespoke solutions to client needs is unusual in our industry, and equally our investment in manufacture and R & D ultimately benefits the end user with better, cost-efficient sustainable solutions. This value engineering approach by SDS is how the company has grown to annual sales of £12 million in just seven years, with 2009 results being 30% up on the previous year. SDS is currently working on major motorway infrastructure projects across the UK and is also working on a string of large-scale construction projects throughout the UK and Europe. It is also engaged on a number of Building Schools for the Future projects including nine schools for Aberdeen and thirteen for Knowlsey, Liverpool where SDS involvement has brought its value engineered solutions to these projects. SDS has high environmental credentials. Its GEOlight stormwater attenuation tanks are manufactured in the UK entirely from post-consumer PVC waste, normally destined for landfill. This reduces the carbon footprint and helps development projects achieve a higher BREEAM rating (a building environmental assessment). SDS is the only company in its sector to have achieved ISO 9001 and will shortly have achieved environmental standard ISO 14001.
