Peter Cox fix masonry anchors for new hotel viewing balcony

Cintec masonry anchors have been installed by Peter Cox to support a new viewing balcony at the Royal Hotel Llangollen
Peter Cox has installed a series of Cintec masonry anchors to the exterior wall of Llangollen's Royal Hotel to create secure fixing points for a new viewing balcony overlooking the River Dee.
This new feature enables the hotel which was built in Victorian times to provide guests with a clear vantage point looking across the river and its rapids to the nearby historic town bridge.
The hotel is built right on the river's edge so access had to be via overhanging scaffolding which during the contract was close to being submerged at its base when the river was in flood. Installing the anchors varying in length between 700 and 1000 mm meant drilling the sandstone walls with the use of a template to position them in the precise locations needed for subsequent fixing of the gallows brackets on to which the balcony was to be mounted. Cintec anchors consist of a stainless steel bar surrounded by a woven polyester mesh sleeve into which a rapidly curing cementitous slurry is injected under pressure. This forces the sleeve to expand filling the space within the wall before the grout sets to create a strong mechanical and chemical bond. It is particularly suitable with weak substrates and for bridging cavities.
The anchors are purpose made for each contract and can be supplied with screw threaded heads or other fittings as required. The work was undertaken under direct contract for the hotel's owner.
