Wall to Wall radio system for Crossrail Works
23 December 2010
VINCI BAM Nuttall Joint Venture source digital radio system for tunnelling project at Tottenham Court Road station and Crossrail works.
The VINCI BAM Nuttall Joint Venture, currently working on the Tottenham Court Road station redevelopment and expansion, have sourced the supply and installation of radio communications system equipment from Wall to Wall Communications Ltd.The communications experts are providing a Digital Motorola Mototrbo system with multiple channels and a SIP telephone interconnect. A complex antenna system will allow seamless communication between workers at ground level and their team within the tunnel.
The hand portable radio package is comprised of Digital Motorola DP3400’s and DP3600’s all powered by Lithium Ion batteries for enhanced efficiency. These radios are dust, shock and water proof, which ensures a consistent and reliable performance in extreme conditions. They have the ability to make one-to-one calls, group and all-calls as well as text messaging and external phone calls. An emergency button is allocated on each handset which can call a predefined receiver at any time. These communications measures are essential to ensure stringent health and safety conditions on site.
Wall to Wall Communications Ltd CEO, Barbara Calvert, has expressed her delight at the ongoing partnership between BAM Nuttall and Wall to Wall Comms;
“We relish the challenge of designing and installing complex and stable communications systems to support projects of this magnitude. The Crossrail line will change the face of London transport and we’re excited to be a part of that. We have an ongoing working relationship with BAM and have collaborated on many projects including the installation of an antenna and radiating cable system within Cuilfail tunnel (East Sussex) last year, allowing cars to receive uninterrupted commercial (am/fm) radio coverage. We have high hopes that this relationship will continue for years to come.”
