REID Lifting helps close last few “snags” at Ajman (UAE) STW

When the engineers involved in this major Ajman STW contract were closing down the final few snagging items, REID Lifting Ltd were contacted to explore potential solutions for lifting the Blower motors already installed in Acoustic Enclosures.
Reid visited the Ajman site, met the local site supervisor, discussed the proposed solution and measured up the job in detail.The Reid solution. a custom variant of its Queens Award winning PORTA-GANTRY range, was designed such that the blower motors could be removed without dismantling the acoustic covers. The lifting gantry, being lightweight aluminium alloy, is portable and easy manually assembled. The custom design maximises every millimetre of headroom within the acoustic enclosure, includes wind up jack legs that allow both course and fine adjustment in the height of lift. The system is to be used across the whole suite of 6 blowers within the plant-room.
The equipment is installed and ready to use within 10 minutes by just 2 maintenance operators, providing an excellent return on investment; and the equipment can be used on other lifting tasks within the STW, also.
The economics of the Reid solution were overwhelming – an overall cost of less than £4k compared with original alternatives from others ranging from £15-70k, yet it was also the most simple and effective solution with little or no downstream maintenance costs.
i.e. Lowest acquisition cost, lowest maintenance cost, easiest to assemble and the simplest and safest to use.
An Engineer closely involved with the project commented “The service provided by Reid has been excellent. We spent many man-hours discussing this particular problem with a number of different vendors in the UK and none provided any realistic solution. In fact the feedback we got was quite indifferent in some cases; it was the usual story of vendors not being too interested as soon as a degree of bespoke engineering was known to be involved. REID got “hands on” and produced an ideal solution in a rapid turnaround.”
Nick Battersby, MD at REID, and the senior engineer who visited the site at UAE added “Once we could assess the challenge in detail we could see that there was just enough room for a solution if we developed a bespoke trolley system and pick up bar, which we did in just a few days. Such a custom solution is always pleasing – especially when the client is so appreciative.”
