The British Transport Police recently conducted an inspection of New Street Station due to a Liberal Democrats Party Conference being held in Birmingham. During this inspection, officers almost entered the worksite. However, the security personnel challenged them and escorted them out of our work areas. I highly commend them for this action.
Transec completed an unannounced inspection of the station today and attempted to gain access to the Hinterland via the fire doors from platform 12. They were immediately apprehended and challenged by the security operative manning that area. This is an excellent result, so please pass on the thanks of the station team and my own appreciation to the individual on duty at the time.
Please pass on my thanks to the security officer based at Hinterland Fire Marshall. The officer concerned denied entry to a delivery attempting to bring gas canisters to the site and in the process, prevented a potentially serious incident from occurring.
Thanks to the commitment of your team over the last 6 months, Network Rail has reached another critical milestone in opening the London Underground area, as part of the overall £600m project at Blackfriars. Once again, your security team has enabled me to get on with the day job, as I was assured that the stringent guidelines set were being met.
