Third Time's a charm as O'Brien Contractors orders latest Andover Trailers Plant Body
16 May 2014
Civil engineering and groundwork specialist O’Brien Contractors has taken delivery of its third Andover Trailers plant body, mounted to a new 32 tonne Scania 8x4 rigid. The company has been so impressed with the reliability and durability of previous Andover bodies, it has opted to replace like-for-like.
O’Brien Contractors has been providing a range of construction services around Leamington Spa for more than 50 years. The new vehicle, which is also mounted with a Fassi crane, replaces a previous Andover Trailers plant body that had been in operation for seven years. The bespoke LPPB32 body is fitted with 2.5m long x 1m wide hydraulic fold flat ramps, together with hydraulic steady legs, which ensure a stable platform for loading and unloading on the uneven grounds O’Briens frequently work on. Seven pairs of lashing points in the floor ensure loads of all sizes can be strapped down securely.
Mick O’Brien, Plant Manager and Director, says: “Andover continues to win our business because the two previous bodies have proven highly reliable. A combination of this reliability and the increased residual value that a second-hand truck carries when it is fitted with an Andover body, left us in no doubt about which bodybuilder to work with.
“Andover has not disappointed, the new equipment is performing very well transporting a wide variety of our own plant and equipment throughout the UK. As we operate this single plant truck, reliability is critical to the smooth daily running of our business.”
The Fassi crane fitted to the plant body allows O’Briens to unload and load heavy equipment at delivery sites, but it also enables the company to use the vehicle as a mobile crane on construction sites.
O’Brien adds: “We generally have 15 contracts running at any one time and so there is a lot of plant movement between these sites. Dependability is without doubt imperative, so that’s why we continue to use Andover.”
As with the majority of Andover Trailers plant bodies, this latest vehicle offers a deck height up to five inches lower than a regular plant body, enabling O’Briens to benefit from low ramp and beavertail approach angles – which makes it easier to load and unload machinery.
In order to comply with strict health and safety regulations, the plant body features Andover Trailers’ fixed width working at height system, giving maximum protection to the operator. The body also includes starter jump leads and a tyre inflator kit, just some of the extras offered by Andover Trailers.
The new plant body is finished in an eye-catching yellow livery and will be on the road six days a week.
