Cotswold Roller Hire expands branch network and truck fleet
27 October 2011
Evesham-based Cotswold Roller Hire has taken delivery of a new 26 tonne Mercedes-Benz Axor 6x2 rigid, mounted with an Andover Trailers plant body with single crank beavertail.
The vehicle is an addition to the fleet and will be based at the company’s new depot in Ludgershall, on the border between Hampshire and Wiltshire, which opened in September 2011. Located just 10 miles from Andover Trailers’ factory, it will be used to transport equipment within the company’s 1,500-strong plant fleet, which is offered for hire between its eight depots throughout England and Wales.Neville Thomas, Managing Director of Cotswold Roller Hire, says: “Strength and reliability are our number one priorities when specifying new vehicles for the fleet. An Andover Trailers plant body delivers this in spades.
“We’ll be keeping this truck on the fleet until it’s about 10 years old. Even then, it will be the chassis which has worn out and not the bodywork. We’ve been buying Andover Trailers kit for years – they are truly built to last,” he adds.
The LPPB 26 body features fuel-saving hydraulic fold-forward ramps – a design first pioneered by Andover Trailers. Measuring 2.5m long by 1m wide, they fold flat against the deck to minimise aerodynamic drag whilst the truck is in motion.

The specification includes hydraulic steady legs to ensure a stable platform for loading and unloading. It also includes a remote-control Ramsey H800 winch and six pairs of lashing points, ensuring plant can be safely loaded and then secured firmly in place.
As with the majority of Andover Trailers’ rigid bodies, it offers a deck height up to five inches lower than a regular plant body, enabling the customer to benefit from the lowest ramp and beavertail approach angles.
“The Mercedes-Benz and Andover combination is very light and performs well,” adds Thomas. “Compared to some of our older Volvo rigids we’ve gained an additional one tonne in payload.”
Cotswold Roller Hire is one of the largest suppliers of plant hire equipment in the industry, offering a vast range of machinery to the construction and civil engineering markets. Its plant range is continually maintained and serviced to ensure reliability and includes all types of rollers – from pedestrian to self-propelled models – as well as dumpers, telehandlers, mini-excavators, chip spreaders and portable site accommodation.
