Successful stylist inspires young F.A.M.E Team hopefuls.

Jamie Stevens, Artistic Director at Errol Douglas, was delighted to spend a day with the Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence (F.A.M.E.) Team recently – teaching them all about ghd techniques and how to make wigs. Jamie, one of the youngest people ever to be awarded a Fellow with Honours by the Fellowship, was previously a F.A.M.E. Team member in 2006. He talked to students Megan Zarrabi, 20, Adele Simpkin, 23, Katie Hubbard, 23, Carly Aplin,22 and Vicky Turner about the important techniques involved with creating the perfect looks with GHD’s and the different ways you can manipulate wigs, including by starting your own from scratch.

As Artistic director for Errol Douglas, Jamie works for one of Britain’s most loved and sought after hairdressers. Errol Douglas has won countless awards and has 28 years of hairdressing experience. His priority is to make every woman look their best and as a result his client list includes some of the most glamorous women: Iman, Christina Ricci, Emmy Rossum, Gillian Taylforth, Suzy Amy (from Footballer Wives), Angelica Bell (BBC presenter) and Emilia Fox.

Errol is renowned for classic styling, beautiful cuts and the best blow drying and polished finishing in London. With over 40 stylists and colourists, a beautifully designed, tranquil salon and undivided one on one attention with the customers Errol Douglas is a deserved recipient of titles such as Honorary Ambassador for the Hairdressing Council, Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year and The Guild of Hairdressers Special Recognition award.

Errol Douglas’ Artistic Director, Jamie Steven’s is one of the hottest young talents in hairdressing. Aged only 27 he is already in an enviable position from the rest of the industry. At aged 18 he owned his own salon. He has worked for the likes of Beverly C, Daniel Hersheson and now Errol Douglas and he has styled Kylie, Stella McCartney, Elle McPherson, Christian Slater and Gok Wan to name a few. Additionally, Jamie is the Directive Creative Ambassador for the global sensation GHD’s and has been shortlisted for the Men’s Hairdresser of the Year award in the Prestigious British Hairdressing Awards this year. He said of the day:

“It consisted of two parts, in the morningI showed the F.A.M.E Team all of the ghd techniques using all three sizes of the new stylers. These included the Classic Ribbon Curl, Summer Wave and newer techniques such as Origami. In the afternoon, I showed them how to make wigs from scratch, enabling them to create hair to whatever format they require such as colours, thickness and the different ways to cut the wigs.”

Founded in 1946 as the Fellowship of Hair Artists of Great Britain, The Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence (F.A.M.E.) Team are selected annually to promote a new generation of bright young hairdressers. The Team whose motto is “strength through quality” are nominated by Fellowship members and to be selected individuals must go through a rigorous process to ensure they can combat the hard work that is parallel with being in the F.A.M.E Team. Members must take part in photographic shoots, media publicity, fashion shows, hairdressing seminars and events. Above all the team hone their skills and are given a unique platform to shine.

Andrew Clark, founder of the F.A.M.E. Team program says: “We’re keen to stress that being part of the F.A.M.E. Team does not necessarily make young hairdressers famous! It’s not an instant path to glory. However, it is a spectacular launch pad for young stylists, many of whom have gone on to become the key players in the industry over the past fifteen plus years. Over the course of the year F.A.M.E. Team members experience the creativity of their fellows and get an invaluable insight into how the top end of the industry really works.”

On the day the girls each received a pair of new ghd stylers to use and loved the new techniques they learnt. Team member Carly Aplin said: “It was a great day to work alongside Jamie on our workshop, especially as I once followed his work as a past F.A.M.E. Team member. It was great inspiration for myself to see how far his career has moved upwards since being in the 2006 F.A.M.E. Team, not only as a top stylist at Errol Douglas but now the Creative Ambassador for ghd. I loved the day with Jamie, working with the ghd stylers to create new techniques for the latest hot hair trends, and I found the techniques great for future shows and salon clients.”
