Miele Professional helps the Orders of St John Care Trust look after residents
03 February 2009
For the past three years, The Orders of St John Care Trust has specified only Miele Professional when it comes to laundry and dishwashing products. Currently, the Trust has Miele machines in many of its locations around the UK.
The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) is the second largest not for profit care provider in the UK, currently operating 74 homes in four counties. It is responsible for the care of some 3,300 residents and employs around 3,500 staff.
The washing machines and tumble dryers currently under use at OSJCT range from Miele Professional’s popular Little Giants range, up to the larger 13kg machines, dependant on the size of the care home. OSJCT also has several G8072 freshwater dishwashers.
“We have previously used other brands but are delighted with the quality and reliability of Miele products. We are very happy with our relationship with the premium brand. They provide us with bespoke solutions to our needs,” said Mark Holmes, Head of Property Services at OSJCT.
“Miele Professional products are all WRAS approved and adhere to the strict legislation which is necessary for operators such as ourselves. That, with added bonus of a sluice facility on the washing machines was an important factor in our decision.”
To date the machines have been primarily used to wash, dry and iron the clothes and bed linen of the Trust’s residents. This means that there needs to be different programmes for the different fabrics and they all require different temperatures, different detergent and different disinfecting levels.
Isis House and Isis Court in Oxford, one of the Trust’s retirement and care centres for older people, currently utilises three 13kg washing machines, two 13kg tumble dryers, a HM rotary ironer, four G7859 Thermal Disinfecting Dishwashers and a G8072 freshwater pass through dishwasher. The care home and extra care home apartments cater for a total of over 100 residents.
Isis House was also the venue for the recent launch of the Trust’s first recipe book, ‘The Book for Cooks Who Care’, which Miele sponsored.
The collection of 130 recipes is the brainchild of Frances Chapman, OSJCT Trust Catering & Housekeeping Manager and features traditional and more unusual dishes suggested by residents and staff across all of OSJCT’s locations, including the 17 Oxfordshire homes.
Quirky recipes such as Christmas Eve Soup and Butternut Squash Chutney, sit alongside more traditional British dishes – Lancashire Hot Pot, Faggots and Traditional Trifle. There are also some traditional Oxfordshire recipes, such as Banbury Cakes, as well as a wide variety of delicious cakes, biscuits and much more.
“The relationship between OSJCT and Miele Professional is an on-going and strong one. We continuously work together to provide real answers to any problems that may crop up. Maintenance and servicing of the machines is provided through our Professional Partners, Wilson Electrics and Gillman’s Commercial,” added Rob Dixon National Sales Manager at Miele Professional.
“Miele Professional is extremely helpful and proactive; whenever we have a requirement, Miele fulfils it, and their fast response to machine delivery and a 24/7 service back up is exactly what we are looking for,” said Mark Holmes
