Sailors' Scotland trek raises money for Help for Heroes

Three sailors from HMS Edinburgh recently endured a trek across Scotland to raise money for the armed services charity, Help for Heroes.

The Sailors, Lt Colin Marshall RN and Petty Officres Andy "Gibbo" Gibbs and Jonathan "Chas" Charlesworth, were sponsored by Socomec Sicon Ltd. 

Their 62 mile trek started aptly on 11th November - Rememberance Day - in Glasgow and took them across central Scotland via Airdrie, Falkirk, South Queensferry and Corstorphine, carrying a stretcher to represent injured servicemen and women from across the armed forces.

Money was raised for the charity In each area the trio passed through before ending up at Murrayfield Rugby Park on 15th November, to tie in with the Scotland v South Africa rugby match, where a raffle was held for a signed Scotland rugby shirt.

Funds were given a further boost with the auction of a free family ticket to a Saracens rugby game. Signed rugby tops from Gloucester, Bath and Harlequins rugby teams were also auctioned off.

Help for Heroes is backed by the Army Benevolent Fund and works hard to ensure that the plight of wounded soldiers, sailors and airmen is not forgotten. The Army Benevolent Fund, the Armys' own charity, also works for soldiers and other servicemen and women both directly and through its' support of other service charities.
