New healthcare IPS and HBN compliant sanitaryware at University Hospital Coventry's theatre refurbishment project.

University Hospital Coventry, first opened in 2006, boasts some of the most modern equipment available anywhere in the NHS. Specialising in areas such as cardiology, neurosurgery, stroke, joint replacements, and featuring a designated major trauma and cancer centre. University Hospital Coventry takes immense pride in its enviable reputation for patient care, clinical teaching, and innovation. This reputation attracts internationally renowned specialists who choose to work at the hospital.

The Design Buro were involved in the design and specification of the theatre refurbishment at the hospital, with phase 2 focusing on upgrading theatres 17 and 18. The project required Healthcare IPS and a range of healthcare sanitaryware and brassware, for which Bushboard Washrooms was asked to provide a quotation. Vinci Facilities and Medical Air Technology collaborated as contractors on the project, trusting Bushboard’s Healthcare IPS products to meet the specification and achieve a HBN compliant fit out.

The project required clinical wash hand basins (HBN code: LB H M), a scrub up trough (HBN code: SU H2) and slop hopper disposal units (HBN code: DU). Bushboard worked with market leaders in healthcare sanitaryware, Ideal Standard and Rada, to ensure adherence to the project’s specification. We offer two styles of healthcare IPS, both installed by our preferred installer AT Commercial Interiors. These units are HBN compliant and designed to promote infection control.

Our Traditional Boxed Out Unit was supplied for the 2-person scrub-up trough, to suit the between walls application, and for the second slop hopper and basin unit. This traditional style healthcare IPS unit is an SGL box featuring sit-on SGL panels with large top-hinged access. The units panel dock system ensures constant alignment during installation and ongoing maintenance. Nick Softley, Director at AT Commercial Interiors, noted that it was “very quick and simple to install as it requires no cutting or plumbing works other than final connections to waste and supply pipes.”

Our Trust System was supplied for the single clinical wash hand basins and featured a stepped design for the slop hopper and basin unit. This healthcare IPS unit is a, seamless SGL box that incorporates side-hinged access hatches with anti-tamper lock. The unit is secured to the wall with full length aluminium channels and tie back rods for extra secure mounting. Nick suggested that the new take on existing IPS units gives a “very clean look by eliminating some of the joints”.

To speed up installation and ensure the theatres were not closed for an extended period, our Ready Plumbed Healthcare IPS Units were supplied. These units arrive on-site pre-assembled and plumbed with sanitaryware and brassware, tested for leakage in a controlled factory environment, thereby minimising disruption. This reduced AT Commercial Interiors’ time on site as “all the basin and sink units had pipe tails fitted, and the sanitaryware was also finished with silicone, saving yet another process.”

Overall, Nick was very pleased with the communication and service from Bushboard and continues to work with Bushboard Washrooms on his various washroom fit out projects, ranging from healthcare to commercial.
