Motala Platform Lift Installed for Improved Customer Convenience
Project DetailsEye Place of Fleet Street, a newly opened independent opticians, required a platform lift solution to ensure accessibility for all customers, especially those with mobility challenges. The store, located on Fleet Street, occupies a two-floor unit with consultation rooms and toilet facilities on the lower level, necessitating a reliable lift installation for easy access. The Platform Lift Company was contracted to install a Motala platform lift to meet this need.
Access Solution
The Eye Place of Fleet Street originally operated from a single-floor shop, which didn’t require a lift. However, with the move to the new two-floor location, accessibility became essential. The new location opened in March 2023, and with consultation rooms and toilets situated on the lower floor, it was crucial to provide customers with disabilities access to these areas, particularly as the NHS contract demanded full accessibility compliance.
The Platform Lift Company provided a Motala platform lift, similar to previous projects, ensuring it was fire-rated and compliant with accessibility regulations. The lift was installed at the rear corner of the shop, allowing customers to easily reach the downstairs consultation rooms. The lift also met the NHS requirements for disability access, ensuring a smooth customer experience.
The Result
The main challenge was ensuring that the new two-floor unit, which had been adapted for the optician’s practice, provided the same level of accessibility as the previous one-floor shop. With all essential services located on the lower floor, it was vital to have a lift that was safe, efficient, and compliant with modern standards.
Additionally, the installation had to be discreet and not disrupt the shop’s aesthetic, as Eye Place is a premium optician. The Platform Lift Company overcame these challenges by designing a solution that integrated seamlessly with the shop’s layout while meeting all regulatory requirements for fire and accessibility compliance.
The lift not only provides full access to the downstairs consultancy rooms and toilets but also complies with NHS standards for accessibility. The shop can now welcome all customers, ensuring that those with disabilities can comfortably access all areas of the practice.
