Parque del Agua, Spain
11 October 2016
Benches of the World, a new spot inside the Parque del Agua.
Visitors can sit on traditional benches from the parks of Paris, New York and London. A new attraction in the green space of the city - which has been donated by Grupoarga - the company that manages the maintenance of the park. The three units have been installed in the viewpoint now called Benches of the World, where their history is explained on plaques fitted to each seat and a nearby signpost.
The seat from New York is made of cast iron and tropical timber, and became popular in the American city along with the International Exhibition of 1938. Since then, it has been widely installed in New York’s streets and parks.
The seat from Paris, also in cast iron and timber, is a classic design which started to be used in the 50s. The Rotherham seat from London – supplied by Furnitubes - is a Victorian style design first thought to have been used in London's parks and continues to be used today as the standard seat in the capital's Royal Parks. Supplied painted in a special green colour the Rotherham cast iron seat has a distinctive floral-style pattern with timber slats arranged in a scrolled profile.
The new spot, located just next to a lake with ducks on a nicely shaded area by stunning trees, has become one of the most popular corners in the park.
