Surviving the flood – Temporary Kitchen Modules fill the breach
01 April 2010
Container Kitchen Systems supplies temporary kitchen modules for emergencies.
The recent severe floods in Cumbria highlighted problems that the hospitality industry has to contend with when the weather turns bad. Many establishments were so badly hit that they had to close altogether but others had to find a way to struggle on to avoid loss of revenue and fulfil bookings. When the kitchen is damaged but the rest of the amenities are still useable, getting a temporary kitchen module on site will enable the premises to stay open, service customers and not drop off the ‘tourist destination’ radar.
In an emergency Container Kitchen Systems (CKS) can supply temporary kitchen modules as quickly as a few hours after receiving the initial phone call. And the kitchen can be up and running within a couple hours of delivery. CKS aims to make the whole operation as painless as possible to customers who are already experiencing a high level of stress.
“When they phone us we can talk them through exactly what they need,” says Mark Kingston of CKS. “Often they don’t realise just how easy it is to get a temporary kitchen up and running.”
Experts advise customers on the right unit to choose based on how many chefs need to use it, how many meals are to be prepared, what equipment is required and the amount of space available to site the kitchen. Many customers worry about access but CKS are experts when it comes to manoeuvring kitchens into tight and awkward spaces.
The CKS kitchen modules come in three basic sizes. The smallest measures 3.8 x 2.8m, has sufficient space for two chefs, can provide up to 200 meals per session. The standard unit is fitted with all the most familiar kitchen equipment including a gas six-burner oven range, salamander gas grill and double-basket gas fryer.
To make it even easier, customers can specify the kitchen equipment to match what they are used to. That means chefs and kitchen staff don’t have too much adjustment to do when settling into the temporary kitchen. In fact, so many like it so much they don’t want to move out when the rebuilding and salvage work is completed!
CKS is one of the UK’s leading temporary kitchen specialists. The company also offers a professional kitchen installation service and operates a catering equipment maintenance division.
