Animal Park goes wild for Galvanizing

A leading galvanizing firm has played an ongoing role in a major development at one of the UK’s largest wildlife parks in Cumbria.
Wedge Group Galvanizing’s Heywood-based plant, Pillar Wedge, has provided its specialist hot-dip treatment to dozens of steelwork structures and components manufactured by long-standing partner, J Wareing & Son Ltd, to create dozens of new animal enclosures at South Lakes Wild Animal Park as part of a £3.5 million pound development at its safari site. And this exciting project saw them galvanize frames for flamingo, leopard, lion and hippo enclosures, in addition to a brand new entrance and free flight area. Mark Waters, Commercial Manager at Pillar Wedge, explained: “As a regular park visitor myself, I was hugely impressed with the conservation areas and the diverse range of species and animals that are happily housed there. We’re thrilled to have played a part in such a huge development and one that will please so many local visitors and tourists. Teaming up with J Wareing & Sons Ltd on this project has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to working with them again in the near future.”
Pillar Wedge has worked with J Wareing & Sons Ltd for over 20 years on a number of prestigious projects for clients including BAE Systems and the Environment Agency.
Karen Brewer from South Lakes Wildlife Park, added: “We’re really excited with the developments taking shape already, just six months into the £3.5 million pound expansion, and the feedback we’ve received from the public has been absolutely fantastic. The galvanizing work that Pillar Wedge completed is of great importance as the steel is not only protected from weather, but also against rust and corrosion caused by highly acidic animal urine and waste.”
