Leading Firm Makes a Splash

A leading galvanizing firm has played a vital role in the construction of a multi-million pound Subtropical Swimming Paradise at one of the UK’s leading family short break destinations.
Worksop Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has teamed up with long-standing client Derby-based B & K Structures to galvanize more than 200 tonnes of steelwork to form the mainframe of the new Subtropical Swimming Paradise, which is currently under construction at Center Parcs’ brand new holiday village in Bedfordshire. The £250 million Woburn Forest project is the organisations fifth resort and will employ 1,500 staff upon its completion next spring. The new park will feature a Village Square which will include the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, a variety of restaurants, and The Plaza with a 75 room hotel, spa, conference centre and shops.
Paul Robinson, Commercial Manager at Worksop Galvanizers, said: “We were delighted to assist our long-standing clients B & K structures on this exciting project which is set to employ so many people from the local area. The main structure consisted of many complicated sections, so it was essential the steelwork was treated with great precision.”
The futuristically-designed Subtropical Swimming Paradise, with its clam shape, will house the village’s 500,000 sq. ft. of water experiences which include a wave pool, toddler pool, family play area, Lazy River, and three exciting new water rides.
Paul Heappey, Production/Transport Controller at B & K Structures, explained: “We called upon the services of Worksop Galvanizers as the plant has helped us on a number of projects before, and we knew they had the capacity to deal with such a large project. We chose galvanizing to form part of the surface treatment process as the structure is located in a particularly damp environment, as a precaution against rust and corrosion.”
